Am I Being Realistic?

Am I being realistic? Mar 07, 2007
I am currently planning a complete move to Dubai from England. I have started the ball rolling with my research into everything I need to know.

I will be arriving in Dubai at the end of April, and I am budgeting for 1-2 months without any work. My current skills lie in the web development area, i.e. ASP.NET, C#, SQL Server with two years solid experience.

What I am trying to discover is whether I am being realistic with plans to find a job within 1-2 months? Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Lee Wilson

Hi Lee,

what are your aspirations in terms of position/salary?

Cheers

if you dont care about the salary, 1-2 months may be OK, otherwise it would take longer...Unfortunately, salaries are not that good here and housing is very expensive. Do not expect UK salaries, that only applies for people with lots of experience and working for multinational companies...

Ian, I am currently working my way up to a Senior Developer level. I am in need of a severe change of scenery for many reasons - hence coming to Dubai. My current salary in the UK is £25,000 (177,000 AED). Will I get anywhere close to that? My career move is not only salary driven, but I also want to see more of the world whilst earning some money. I felt that I had a skill in demand within Dubai.

indi - I appreciate the raw advice. I am beginning to understand that the salary might not be so good... and the housing costs are pretty high!

Great feedback - Anymore help would be great.

Lee,

pm me your details, check out website

www.itjobsme.com

for details on IT positions I am recruiting for. Your salary expectations are not too high but what concerns me is that the programming and developing positions out here are generally given to candidates from the subcontinent who work for less money. Sad but true. However Once I have an idea of any vertical specialisation I can give you a better idea on what you could expect to earn,

THanks

John
