Etisalat Leased Circuit Ridiculous quote - I need help Sep 19, 2006
Hi,

has anyone had a problem with getting the RIGHT quote for a Leased Line from Etisalat?

I'm trying to get a Leased Line in place for Point to point connection between my office here and their international office and they're telling me for a 2Mb Leased Line it is AED 86,000/month. Yup, Eight Six thousand a month? and for a 45Mb Leased Line it is over 1 million dirhams a month?

Are they stupid? Can someone tell me what to do..

I first called Etisalat, they said to get a quote for a Leased Line you have to come to the office in Deira. When I went there, I was told to email them for a quote. When I asked him to give me the quote since I was already there, they said, no please email usa what you need. I mean what the hell?

Does anyone know anyone at Etisalat so that I can get the right information?

Thanks for your help in advance

nosoup4u for private leased lines the prices are ridicoulous but why do you need a private one ? why not just get an internet connection and have a VPN tunnel between the two offices ?

anyway i can put you in touch with a hisham in ecompany who might help you out.

I know VPN is a solution which is what I had suggested to my Boss in the first place. But our US Headquarters wants a P2P connection and not a VPN tunnel between our Dubai office and our Malaysia office.

If you can put me in touch with your contact, that would be absolutely fabulous. Email me his number if you can and I can call him today.

Thanks MaaaD!

I had the same problem because my head office of overseas too. The prices are rediculous....I have no idea why.

So we passed on the P2P and now I just have to check the ip every morning because it changes here occasionally.

Did you get similar quotes like mine for the Leased Circuit (P2P) from Etisalat?

I will tell you what.

Leased line is going to be costly. Get a Adsl, use Dynamic Dns for both locations. Add each others headers in your router for automatic updates. Integrate ADS with internet using IIS. But this is totally unsecure.

VPN Is much more considered. There are a lot of third party applications you can use it to enhance VPN & make you feel more of a local network than a remote site. You can add more VPN Connections & interlink it by briding connections.

Also if you prefer the first method, make a ping (-t) command batch so that you dont loose connection + in vpn you have option of Keeping the connection alive.

Alternatively, you can go for terminal servers through VPN or through normal internet connection.

I would go with maad and others for VPN.

I don't have the quotes anymore....what I remember is 50,000/month for a 2mb line....which is a bargin compared to your quotes.

Well, get them to pay the cost and get your leased line.

Otherwise I'm sure they might change what they want when they see the cost.

I know. i had suggested multiple solutions to them last week. We have ADSL here but our Malaysia office which is bigger has a T1.

I don't see why they don't want to implemetn VPN. Its low cost, its secure.

Ah well, we'll see what happens..

Is it me or does Etisalat quote different prices for everyone? Another friend of mine told me they quoted him AED 75000/month for a 2Mb leased circuit.

You would think a 2Mb Leased Circuit would cost the same regardless of what you use it for. All they have to do is install it and then us Network admins do the rest and decide how to use the line.
