Now that I find I have a chunk of free time on my hands... I need a hobby.

So as usual, I'm going to ask you guys, what are your hobbies, and what do you think would be a good hobby for me?

Well, I was kind of hoping for suggestions, you know... ideas?

And then I could take them on board and choose a hobby.

Have you thought about taking up golf?? That way, next time I come to Dubai, I'll have someone to go and play with! (selfish I know!)

I used to play a bit of golf but its just too hot at the moment, that and I'm looking for something that I could do in my own time if necessary, i.e. in the evenings, but also on weekends.

it took me half an hour to count the ones i know and the ones i wanna know , so u can be happy with urself too

Reminds me of a funny story from my college days. I spent one summer working at a pool selling tickets. At the end of each day, I would go to the office of the community center where the pool was, to give the secretary the money and receipts. She would count the money twice, once in English, once in her native Spanish - just to double check herself. And she never got the same amount. It used to drive me crazy!

lemme ask u smthing. what is a hobby in ur definition? in mine is smthing that u enjoy doing. it can be ur work, or smthing u do in ur free time. now since i said enjoy, ill go from here. how can anybody know what u enjoy doing? we could come up with ideas or tell u what we have as hobbies, but it has to be u, who knows what ur attracted to. there r a million things. try finding a club that has anything ur interested in and go from there.

Something to exercise your mind or your body, but you do it for enjoyment, not for work or education (unless you find education fun but that's a wobbly one).

Plenty of people on here know me, and kind of know what I'm like.

Oh, Ian - I guess you could just spend more time on here. We could call it "doing an arnie" !!

One thing i love doing is collecting nice movies and watching them. I dont get much time to watch movies nowadays, so whenever i get the time i buy DVDs of movies i have always wanted to watch( still havent watched Dr. Zhivago, Malcom X, Ali, etc.!!) and watch them. I even maintain a list!!! Maybe u can do that.

You could take up snowboarding! I highly recommend it. I plan to take it up seriously in a couple of months. Dance classes? I guess thats a girl thing?? Why not take a class, like learn an instrument. Wine tasting ... that could be a hobby couldn't it?

I perhaps like to do something left of field. Not painting though.

Have you tried getting a tee time? This is the busiest time of the year!

Well, I'll probably drag my bum to Rugby training in the next couple of weeks, but I'm over the hill now so that will be more of a social thing.

I'd like something to occupy my time, but not wittle it away so-to-speak.

Maybe something non-sport that I can get involved in?

Actually, its quite ironic that the special summer rate starts at the 'cooler' time of the day.

Gambling, tai chi, reading, learning how to cook, star gazing (with a telescope), independent films, bowling, botanical gardens, dancing, fashion shows and parties.....
