Prepaid Mobile Phone, Dubai?? Aug 02, 2006
Hi all,

I will be travelling to Dubai in Sept for job interviews and then hoping to return to take a position shortly after that.

Anyway question is regarding mobile phones.

Can i get a prepaid mobile phone relativily easy and at a decent price?
(How Much?)

Im australia we can purchase the Handset & SIM card with About $10 credit from $79.00-$199.00AUD (220-560AED) Depending on the handset and phone carrier generally are available from any grocery store, phone shop, postal agent etc.

The currency I quoted is the currency of the UAE. AED.

You can use your own phone from overseas (if it's not locked) and just buy the card.

I think the Al Wasel prepaid connection works out cheaper in the long run. Phone shops and Etisalat sell them.

http://www.etisalat.ae/ has more.

If your mobile phone is a tri band it should work in the UAE. MIne did for our visit, but it was costly.

Apparently if you get a new SIM card in the UAE and know the unlock code for your phone you can use your old phone there, but have a local number.

Not easily. VoIP has been blocked by Etisalat because it eats into their profits. Some of us can use it in the Freezones still, but we might be losing it soon.

Don't assume you can use VoIP at present - there's two other current topics on the subject. One titled Vonage and the other Skype.
