More countries then you are years old? Jul 30, 2006
Since many of you on this forum are well traveled… I’m curious.

I had a bet in high school with some friends to see who could get to more countries then they are years old, I still haven’t made it but 5 of my friends have.

The highest I’ve ever met was a 41 year old Kiwi I was working on a project with who hit 53.

I'm guessing airport stopovers don't count? And do you count England, ireland, Sotland, Wales separately?

Anyway I miscounted, if I went by countries I'd be 20 years old - got a bit of catching up to do.

Stop overs don't count unless you physically left the airport

England/Scotland/Wales/Northern Ireland would count as one country, in my opinion. Southern Ireland (Eire) would be a seperate country.

I'm way short of my age (unless you count mental ages?)

Well, apart from being a serial pest at US customs, I have been to:

Hong Kong (3 times)
China
Taiwan (twice)
Papua New Guinea
New Zealand (3 times)
Ireland
England
(Scotland) <- does it count?
France
Mexico (twice)
Canada (once)
United Arab Emirates (duh!)
Tasmania

Places I would like to go to:
India
Spain
South Africa
Germany
Jordan
Singapore (I've stopped over in the airport quite a few times)
Sharjah :-)
Brazil
Monaco

I knew I should have gone across the Oman border :P

India - stay away from Delhi, unless you like to see people dying in the streets
Spain - awesome place, one of my favorite in Europe. Go to the north, the Basque area is amazing. (And soon it may count as another country!!)
South Africa - was there about 10 years ago, it was really dangerous then. But the safari was amazing
Germany - not a big fan
Jordan - even less of a fan
Singapore - definately worth the trip
Sharjah - no comment
Brazil - Rio!!! Stay away from Sao Paolo. Another really dangerous place, and not a whole lot to do.
Monaco - never been there either

Ok, I have to say that if Scotland counts as a country, then so would each of the Emirates would count as a country!
You just can't count Scotland as seperate!!

But here's a question. Would you count Gibraltar as a seperate country?? (for those who don't know, Gibraltar is a small "country" on the south coast of Spain which belongs to Britain.

I think we should apply the rule if it has a cricket or a Rugby team, then it should count as a country. Scotland almost has a cricket team, and they do have a rugby team.

Ok, but then the UAE only counts as 1 country.
Gibraltar has a cricket team (and is a member of the ICC).
I've just gone up by two countries (Gibraltar and Wales - never been to Scotland!).

If you're going to go by that rule - pick a real sport. Cricket??? That's right up there with curling.
