MAZDA 3 vs Honda Civic. Jul 29, 2006
Hi friends,

Been looking for a Car.. Finally got my eyes set on a Honda Civic or a Mazda 3. I like honda for its performance, but the Mazda wins for its looks and features for the same amount of money. What do you say.. ?

And any clues about the resale values.. Civic vs Mazda

That American Edmunds article doesnt really help. The Mazda 3 sold here is a completely different beast, with a 1.6L 103 hp(?) motor. The Civic has a 1.8L 140 hp engine, which is the same as the American one though, internally.

Well,
one year back I had the same problem, but after spending 3 weeks in showrooms and searching the net and exploring forums I cam to the following conclusion:
Honda Civic: (For a full options car it would be)
pros.:
*a gr8 engine and a small tight body
*a nice digital speedometers and display

cons:
*expensive
*spare parts are more expensive compared to other japanese cars.

As for the mazda 3:
pros.:
*cheaper compared to the same options in a civic.
*cheaper spare parts.

cons.:
*no leather interior available (even custome made)
* Rear Bumper is a bit long making it tricky to park compared to a civic
*engine is small (only 1.6) where there are a 2.0 and a 2.3 engines in N. America and Europe.

Well As for me I got the Zoom 3, it is wonderful, as for the cons:
*Leather, can be made outside in a range of 700-1500 Dhs depending on the quality.
*Rear parking sensors can help out
*the smaller engine is better nowadays with the increasing and unstable petrol prices !!

When I got my mazda 3 the full options was like 54K something, with ABS EBD and all those stuff, Sun-roof, Xenon headlights and fog lamps, electrnic climate control . If u want a civic with the same price u would get a car with nothing, not even ABS, normal switch type AC, and normal Halogen Lamps no fog light or sun-roof of course. but for a civic with the same options as in Zoom 3 I think the price jumps to a nearly 70K Dhs as i recall.
So in the end it is up to u !! u go , u inspect . u search and u decide!!

Good Luck ma8!!

You made a good choice, Mazda 3 is way more fun to drive and corners amazingly compared to the civic, which is just a boring drive IMO. I too wanted leather and got custom genuine leather installed for about AED 5500. The 1500 is absolute crap and will wear out in a year or so (I know cuz I got that first!!). Also you notice that vibrations are really reduced once you get the genuine leather seats. I also had the side panels replaced with the real leather.

Cheers!

hey dude
just refer to this thread which i started when i had the same confussion
before 7 months

http://www.dubaiforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=4601

i went for maz 3

its a gud vehicle
and main thing is that service prices are very less compared to honda

but only -ev i found is that engine is not very powerful... jus 107hp

but if u use activematic driving is fun

spacious than civic

u will get

fog lamps
abs
ebd
alloy wheels
xenon discharge lamps
rain sensing wipers
light senseing headlamps
volume controls on steering
cd player with 4 speaker (in honda lxi will get only 2 speaker)
leather wrapped steering
leather wrapped shift knob
automatic climate control ac
lip spoilers
....goes on....

cheers

What? Land Cruiser?

Palkid7 wrote:*the smaller engine is better nowadays with the increasing and unstable petrol prices !!

The Civic 1.8 has better fuel economy than the Mazda 1.6, according to company numbers and European government tests. 6.8 litres/100 km for the Civic, 7.2 litres/100 km for the 1.6 Mazda.

I got the "fake" leather too. There are two types apparently. The cheap material from Taiwan and the stuff Mercedes uses (what? You think all Mercs have real leather?). I got the better stuff for Dhs 1500 in Sharjah, including doors and a 2-year warranty (10-years for the doors only). The good stuff lasts longer than real leather (dead cow skin after all).

The cheaper stuff can be done for less than Dhs 1000 and usually without warranty.

All you have to do is negotiate. A local guy walks in and they will probably ask for 5000 bucks for fake leather from the get go. I got quoted Dhs 4000 for real leather from the beginning.

hey dude

dats pure rubbish info.

6.8L/100 KM

civic comes with a 50L tank

50/6.8 = 7.36
7.36 * 100 = 736

736KM per full tank.... my god... cant believe

7.2 for mazda is also wrong...

Please. That is under ideal test conditions, and the numbers are for comparison only. The point is the Honda is more efficient. Better technology and what not.

under ideal condition also u wont get that much milage in a civic

what my friend who own a 2006 civic told was on highway he gets a maximum of 500 KMS/fulltank

a difference of 235 KMS (735-500)

never

and i get 525KMS on highways

:salute:

I cannot explain any further, unless someone other than a Mazda owner asks me to explain the discrepancies. But both me and the Mazda owner are correct.

:king:

And as I said, ideal test conditions. Everyone gets lower mileage usually.
