Eating here is DIRT CHEAP compared to the West. If you are from a western country, then not sure why you are complaining.

The prices here are a joke :)

I can cook, but I barely do so. I found it costs more to cook for just one of me than to go out to eat.

The 40 dhs includes getting a side of Thai (papaya) salad - its not just lettuce with oil :D, to go along with my rice or noodles and vegies.

breakfast: a piece of cheese cake + fresh bottle milk/coffee/tea (AED15)
lunch: delivery KFC/Pizza (AED25-30)or lunch out with colleage(AED50)
dinner: with friend in good restaurant (AED80)

I can cook, but lazy to do it. feel it's more expensive than dining out.

alright
ever since i moved to dubai...have been eating out on a regular basis...but lets be honest folks...nothing beats your own simple home cooked meal...i guess after a long day at work...all you wanna do is go home and chill...but you end up ordering junk for dinner which is the slowest part of the day for your body to digest food...buy fish/chicken...freeze them...and learn simple cooking mate...its not that hard...in fact therapuetic to a bigger degree...and healthy...trust me when you see the amount of garbage that these take a away joints put in thier food...anyways thats my personal opinion...i come home at least 2/3 times a week and force myself to cook a healthy meal...a stake or salmon filet doesnt take much time...ok back to the eating options at hand in dubai media city and internet city
MEDIA CITY
LA MODA -italian resturant...good pasta/pizza ...set you back about 50 with drinks...
there is a SUBWAY in the DELL building and also in the CNBC blgd...

in fact the DELL blgd has a lot of options starting from vegetarain indian/chinese/fastfood...the food court there has plenty of variety...

The CNBC bldg also has an italian or fusion resturant...

there are also really good resturants that deliver...like SUMO(japanese- i think they have a branch in internet city)

CHINA GARDEN (they have a outlet in desert springs)

SAJ EXPRESS...lebanese and other cousines...heard from collegues quite good value for money and tasty to boot...

i am at an advantage as we have an in house canteen which serves up breakkie buffet lunches and dinners...and a brilliant salad bar!!

hope that helps...will hunt out more options and post it here...

cheers

I like cooking if I am free with friends.
i cook maybe about 2-3 times a week. really really so lazy to do that after hard work.
usually go out to eat for lunch with friends or colleague.
I like chinese and thai food. also go for japanese or korean food sometimes.
Just feeling sleepy after a nice lunch:)

whenever i awake up ,first of all i check the list of rich people in the world and if my name is not there i rush to work. I buy breakfast from Fuel station . All sort of coffee , tea , juice , soft drinks are free in company. I always drink mango juice and cappuccino.

Lunch is offered in company , so no worry .Just have to avoid pork :P

Dinner ..... i steal the food of arabic girl , who share flat wid moi. :P

Food is damn cheap in Dubai compare to west.

1= Shawarma cost 3 AED in Dubai and in Denmark , it costs 15 AED

2=Biryani cost 15 AED in Dubai and in Denmark , it costs 50 AED.

3= Cola cost 1 or 2 AED in Dubai and in Denmark , it costs 10 AED.

4= Dating a girl cost 100 AED in Dubai and in Denmark , it costs from 300 AED.

I can't cook either... but making a sandwich for lunch is not hard at all. Just go to Spinney's or carrefour today after work. Buy some cheese and cold cut, tomatoes and lettuce. Some muffins or coissants. Some pasta and instant sauce for pasta. Some snacks like small packs of chips and chocolate bars.

Take a coissant with you for breakfast.
Have a banana or orange before lunch
have your sandwich for lunch (pack the tomatoes and lettuce separately)
chocolate bar or chips for snacks
cook some pasta with instant sauce at home

Start with easy cooking, eventaully you will become better cook. First you just have to learn how to turn the stove on and boil pasta.

That will save you a lot of money. I guess most of the people are just lazy to make their own lunch. You don't need to cook to make some lunch for work.

I am sure whatever you can make from home, it will have 100x better nutrutions than the junk you get from the cafetarias or junk food outlets.

I made my own lunch today, 20 AED for lunch is not toooo bad, but the last food I got from The LunchBox was pretty sub-sub.

Today is a turkey, cheese, lettuce sandwich with ranch dressing on white bread. I could make about 10 of these for the 40 AED the ingredients cost.

Bargain and tasty! Beat that!

Yeah, this looks very similar to my daily choices pricing....
Cooking myself? i dont know how to cook! id probably die from malnutrition in a week.

I think they are charging us too much....i went to Ibn Battuta Mall, china court...i paid 50 dirhams for noodles and small pices of meat and shrimp...

im happy with ur choices except for
"Dinner - Rice/noodle with veg, Salad - 40dhs"

thats too much for noodles and veg.

I lived in Europe....Hungary...yes i agree food outside is expensive.
But u cannot compare the quality of food in Western and European culturesto UAE (everything imported frozen) lol

Where did you live in Hungary? I lived there myself and I think there they have the same issue!! Remember those Gyroses???
even the foods here int he restaurants are garbage...sorry to say...all that money we pay just to flush down the toilet in the evening.

I agree with some of what you guys say about the quality of the food here: Yes food is cheap in Dubai but fast food doesn't seem appetizing for many reasons. Pizza has got to be one of the worst things that I've had in Dubai, the cheese is so artificial tasting, imho.

But there are alternatives to not cooking and not eating out every day. The easiest thing to make is a sandwhich: Arabic bread +Halloumi cheese= grilled sandwich which you can wrap up and eat for lunch, you can hardly call this cooking.

What about snacking on rice vine leaves? This is on of my favorite snacks, along with almonds and dates. I also buy yogurt smoothies at Carrefour, they're great as a quick snack.

For ordering in, I like L'Auberge - they have all kinds of yummy and healthy stuff: grilled meats, sandwhiches, hommous, fresh salads.

You should be pro-active and organise some sort of system where your office votes for 5 restaurants and you get one each to deliver lunch for every one every day.
