just heard on TV that a guy can receive death penalty for abandoning religion.
in the same time smone who rapes and kills a child, could get away with 10 years in prison.

Think this should go in the religion section really - because I can see this thread taking off!!

This is a fairly old story (if I'm thinking about the same one?). Is it to do with a man in Afghanistan who converted to christianity? This is a crime under sharia law (I think) which is punishable by death.
I believe the authorities relented to pressure from the west though, and he didn't receive the death penalty.

the reson this is not in the religion section, is because the accent is not on whether in a religion is permissible death penalty for whatever reason, but the death penalty itsself. apply it or not? and if so, what one should do to deserve it

the story is a bout the iranian that came in romania and asked for the romanian citizenship to prevent him for being deported. ha gave up islam and became a christian. legally he can have protection from romania's GOV based on the art 18/s of the romania Constitution! he is safe as long as he is in the romanian land and as long as he has not comited a crime in his country!
