Sometimes what happens is that when something like this happens to you the first time, you're sort of in a blur as to what the f*** to do. However, people learn their lession and are prepared for it the next time.

You need to learn to standup for yourself, even if the odds are against you. The best thing you can do in that situation is trust yourself and make the right judgement. If you feel something is unfair then standup and say it.

The next time you hear them say, "its not your business." Tell them, "you're making it my business."

Good point but you're making a big assumption that they will understand what you're saying.

I am not generalizing against every local, this is the honest truth of what I have seen so far in Dubai.

Maybe not at first, but eventually this sort of behavior will get to you and there is nothing you can do about it.

Three young Saudi Arabians got in front of us in the queue. I then told my friends in English that I was going to punch them any minute if they don't find their place. Several minutes on ... they slowly move back one of them asks me for the time in English! I was shocked. We then had a rather pleasant conversation - no one mentioned punching at all.

I wish we had a function that puts a message to inform that a topic is more than 6 months old. It is so annoying when people dig up old threads.

Doesn's seem to be a need for that as desertdudeshj automatically posts a condescending comment when ever a newbie takes the bait of an old thread. Anyway, the bait is out there for newbies to take as the system keeps popping up threads from years ago so whacha all gonna do?

locals to have an easy ride with the law and in other ways (different rates for dewa for starters) but chocoholic is right you have to stand up for yourself. Dubai is changing and has changed a lot even since I came here - things are not as cushty for them as they used to be. The law still favours them in many respects but Dubai is where it is because of its business/trade and ultimately it needs expats and a good reputation on their treatment if it wants to keep them. The police in particular did a big "customer service" drive a few months back and there are many avenues now to make formal complaints that are taken seriously or at least seriously enough for the police to change their minds on these things. While I say all this it does not apply I believe to the expats in dubai that would be considered "labour" - I feel that their rights can be violated day in day out and there are very few remedies and potentially jail time for arguing about police decisions.

what i can say...
in china foreigners are more valuable than local people,if a foreigner goes to a restaurant ,the waitor serve them first,at least they serve them better than what they do to local customer,give more smiles and extra helps,some places have limits to local people but have no limit to foreigners..some people are very angry about this,but they can do nothing,most of the people just be more friendly to foreigners than to local people by instinct,if a local people lost his way in a new city,there may few that willing to show him the way,but if a foreiner lost his way,there are people willing to lead him to the taxi or even escort him to the hotel he live if the way if not very far..
