It's so true about Etisalat.
When I stayed in The Gardens I went to Jebel Ali Etisalat office and applied for an ADSL conection.
They said they will come in 10 days after I payed some money in advance. I waited for 2 weeks with no results, then I started calling them and nowbody ever answered a single call.
I even send them a fax with a complient with no result.

Just imagine this:
I receive a call after 6 MONTHS and the guy says: "You have applied for an internet connection... when can we come.. blah.. blah.. "

I live in sharjah, i requested a DSL connection installation at 10 am in the morning, and these two national rude and arrogant boys came to my house at 10 pm and rang the bell like 18 times. And argued why didnt you open the door first, "ASSHOLES I WAS SLEEPING" was my reply in my mind. By the way they after 2 weeks or so at night, lol

the more nationals they reqruit the more there service sucks!

I applied for my ADSL connection online and it did say on the website that it could take upto 2 weeks to be sorted. A few days later an engineer turn up to connect the line and then another couple of days later 2 more chaps turned up to connect up the wireless box. The service was fine the national engineer was polite and helpful.

The only problem that I did have was that I missed them one morning because they didn't call me tell check if anyone was home. Btu apart from that no problem.

As has been said before you really have to chase these people sometimes.

We applied to get DSL/Wireless in September, and didn't get it until January, and we called them every few days or so. When they finally connected it, they didn't explain anything on how to work it!

Is wireless common in Dubai? Would alleviate some of the pain of waiting for a technician to connect the service?

Yes, especially if you find unsecured private networks.

Must have been a lucky day for me. It took me 20 minutes to get my drivers license (no exageration - exactly 20 minutes). And it took about 30 minutes to apply and pay to get the phone/cable/internet (just because of the many "choices") and they came the next day and simply activated the jacks.

Driving Licences and DU Aug 20, 2007
Well don't get me started with applying for a driving licence. My latest email home of stories in Dubai was a half A4 page of the process - all being quite funny when you actually aren't involved and reading it...!
I'm sure you have all met Mr Hum. the guy that sits in the typing office and hand writes your application whilst humming the same song???

Du- well I also live in Dubai Marina and if any of you aren't aware if you sign up through Showtime for a srevice and Du fail to provide then Showtime are now suing them AED10,000 each client they F*** up with. We signed 2 weeks ago and hadn't heard anything, contacted the Showtime rep who called Du and they informed he they had lost the paperwork. We then re signed direct with Shpwtime and now Du have been begging us to go through them..... snooze you loose buddy!!!

This is the idea that everyone has in mind, if you get a rude european, you would say that the company is bad. But when its a national, its nationals that are bad.

And the weird part is, people who actually say this, are the same people that are usually against discrimination..

I am not saying this to annoy or offend anyone, but this is what happens most of the time!

motorcycle licence Sep 27, 2007
...talking of licences. All went smoothly with my car licence, except I ticked the boxes for 'motorcycle' and 'Heavy goods vehicle', as I'm qualified to drive in those groups back home. 'Oh no' they said, you must apply individually for each one.

Yes. Apply 3 times, pay 3 times, yet you only get one actual driving licence, but with a few extra letters on it!!

They didn't accept 'Wasta express' either.

Etisalat is a huge building with a 50 tonne ball built on scaffolds and it surprises me how it stands.

The point is, you shouldn't need to keep calling a company just so they will DO THEIR JOBS. Does you boss need to stand over you all day just to make sure you do yours? Friggin ridiculous!

Replying to a post which is almost 5 years old.

Things seemed to have changed little for Etisalat over time. I applied for a new DSL when I moved into my apt in Shj 2 years back. It took them over three months to install the DB on the wall. I picked up the wireless modem and set it up myself, good idea actually because a month after someone called me to ask me if they could come and install it.

But from reading the previous posts in this thread. DU seemed to have improved a lot I guess. having moved to Discovery Gardens I applied for DU net and TV services. They said there tech would come a after 3 days at 10.00 am and hook it up.

They called a day before to confirm and well at 10.30 next day a tech showed up and hooked up everything. Even told me to try my old etisalat wireless router it just might work and guess what it does ( while the dude at the Du kiosk said no it won't work as etisalat locks all there hardware ). I also the tech if he could activate all the points in my apt. He said officialy DU charges 50dhs for any extra access point but since I was nice to him he would do it anyways, and he did.

So until now the DU experience has been pretty pleasant except for the costumer care land line. 1st its not a toll free number and 2nd the amount of time you have to hold is rediculas and are put on very very long holds after every 2 sentences. I actually ran out of credit while on the phone with these guys and I have almost 20Dhs in my account and to make it worse I had to call back. This time cutting through all the crap, 2nd time only took around 7 mins.
