I have checked, it still allows free classified posting. Paid classified might be giving you real targeted audience or more extra traffic.

They can afford to do this because they lead the second hand market in Dubai by miles. The only choice you really have is Dubizzle. In around 2010, Souq.com provided some competition for second hand items. However they redesigned the website and now Souq.com mainly deals in brand new items.
At the end of the day, paying the extra 200 is still more lucrative than selling it to those second hand dealers.

Andyba , Well for starters, it is the 7th most visited website in the UAE, according to Alexa. That means it attracts the most potential customers. The categorization of products is very Good, E.g. If I wanted to sell a BMW 750 li, I can post the car in Motors>Cars>BMW>7 Series, it is that specific. Also, posting is free for general classifieds. The only thing you pay is a one off 2dhs registration fee(as far as I can remember) and it is worth it.
Also, for general consumers, there are no credit cards involved in the site(unless you want to promote your ad), so people will be more inclined to give out less personal details, bringing in more users to the site.

For cars, if the seller is a business, it will mention it in the ad. The logos of the companies can also be seen, this is an incentive to businesses which can essentially sell their products through the internet with minimal cost.
