Does anyone know how they compare price wise?

2006 Mitsubishi Pajero
2006 Land Rover LR3

or any other recomendations?

If you wanna go off road and these are your three choices then they are not the best choices. But if I have to pick them I'd say the Mitsubishi.

to be honest, probably about 80 / 20 split on/off road
so it would be mostly based on comfort, space (diving kit / surfboards etc)
and coming off best in a crash with a cab!! with a little off roading / camping trips thrown in.

If you want something really nice get a Volkswagen Touareg.
Ok, you pay more than for the japanese crap, but if you have the money go for it.

I know there are some people here who will tell you something else, but go decide for yourself... test drive a japanese 4x4 and test drive a Touareg. You will feel the difference. The Porsche Cayenne is also nice, but the Touareg is much better for off road driving.
Next positive aspect is that not every third guy on the streets drives the same car as you.

Just give it a try and test drive one...

Mate of mine bought a Daihatsu Terios...the most ing, hideous heap of rubbish ever to besmirch the title '4 wheel drive' however he swore it would go anywhere and eventually he used to revel in pissing off the boys in their 'Cruisers and such...waited until they got stuck and then just whizzed past them with a buzz like an angry wasp and a spray of sand!

Someone torched it for him in the end thankfully!

Buy the landrover, the best 4x4xfar.
No serious the awd system in the LR3 badged the discovery three in europe is awesome. Ive driven one on the dunes in Namibia and it felt like a quad. Traction was awesome V8 is sweet and they look the dogs. If not get a Landcruiser or Range Rover Sport.
