Hi all,

OK, maybe this should be posted in the "Expat Guide" forum but that seems to more concerned with the practicalities of moving to Dubai, rahter than the "touchy feely" stuff",so I'm posting here.

I'll soon be in Dubai, I'm wondering what's the best things to do / places to visit / things to learn I should do when I first arrive. I've travelled and lived in a few countries so far and the most important thing I've learnt is to get out there and enjoy the place. Find the Dubai in me rather the Shaun in Dubai.

I'm a single guy, who'll be in Dubai with work for a couple of years at least. Work will probably involve quite a few long day. However, I do have a personal life and my aims are to get to meet people, locals or expat, learn a bit about the place and culture. Travel around a bit. Basically, learn something about Dubai and have a good time.

There must be plenty of people on here with some good advise?

Hi Shaun,

There are lots of hints and tips in the Expat Forum if you go through the threads. Apart from that, a good place to start is Dubai Museum and the Heritage Village. They give you an idea of how the place came about and after that...the world is your oyster. You will find your feet quite quickly here but to really get under the skin of the place will take you a few months at least to build a circle of freinds and start getting out and about.

Don't rush it...it'll happen!

If you get a specific question then post it in the Expat Help Forum. There are some very knowledgable types in here and they will help if they can.
