Anyone re-registered their SIM card yet? Aug 01, 2012
Apparently they're doing this in batches. Just wondered if anyone has had the SMS saying they need to register their SIM and how easy/difficult it was to do?

I hear that the ID card is starting to kick in so maybe for the sim card but I doubt it.

RTA card registration has an ID reader at each desk so licensing or registration of cars wont pass the reader without a card.

I got new egate last week on my Emirates gold card but was advised not to to activatte ID card as it only gets you out the country once and not back in.

Well I can kind of see the point of it. I've have the same number for 9 years, changed address and job numerous times, so none of my details are correct anymore. People leave and then pass on the SIM cards to others. They just want to keep everything up to date I guess.

True, but having to do it in person is going to be bit of a PITA. In this day and age this should be done online. Can't be to tough to fill out a form and upload some docs

lailah84 , Basically yes, once you've been asked to re-register you get 3 months to do it, if you don't they disconnect the number and allocate it to someone else.

allocate to someone else :( that's terrible.. I hope they won't do it. Have you tried updating your info at any telecom companies in Dubai?

Do they not just send a text and if you respond the fee is auto deducted. I used to be pay as you go when I arrived here years ago and that was the system back then.

No, you have to take your passport, visa copy etc etc with you. It's for both post-paid and pre-paid from what I gather. But you have to wait for an sms from the company efore going, as they're doing it in batches.

You don't have to do it NOW. They send you an sms when it's your turn to go and register.
