Have you heard of the couple who named their newborn daughter "Emirates"? I can not find the link but I read somewhere they are Syrian couple living in Dubai and they named her Emirates because they "Love" Emirates so much.

To me it is obvious that they dont just want to get back home! What do you think? If you were in the same situation would you have done something similar?

For me it is like to name my kid "Arabian Gulf"!! Now it seems impossible but honestly I'm not sure...

It's just a name really. Why would it be any different to calling a child Dallas or Brooklyn etc To me it doesn't really gel as a name, but hey it's their decision I guess.

hmm to me it sounded weird you know. So you believe there is no other motives behind it? especially as they are Syrian.

Nope, I think it's kind of nice. It's a bit of an odd way to show their appreciation. People can't get citizenship here very easily, so it would make no difference anyway.

So is it Emarat or Emirates ? Or in arabic it will be Emarat and English Emirates ?

Well you are right. As the parents Arab themselves they might call her "Emarat".

Thats what I was wondering if her name is Emirates or actually Emarat, weird name none the less, trend could catch on in the region. Maybe there will be a few Kuwaits and Qatars aswell !

Dear Emerat does not have the same ring to it as Dear John does it though.

What motives? Calling their daughter that wouldn't get them anywhere anyway. It's a name, nothing more.
