Is the Sequoia, built by IBM!
This puts IBM back in the lead. Two years ago, it was China leading, to be then overtaken by Japan's Fujitsu-made K computer.
But the Sequoia is faster than all now!
It uses more than 1.5 million processors. Kinda puts your handheld quad core smartphone to shame, eh?
But take heart from the fact that the Sequoia is a computational beast! Housed in a bunker, it can carry out the equivalent of 320 years worth of 6.7 billion people's hand calculated work in just one hour! (How do they work that out??)
It runs at the speed of 16.32 petaflops! To get a clearer picture, a one petaflop computer would take 2 years to set up and analyze a drug interaction simulation on the heart; for a 10 petaflop it would drop to 2 days, and at 16 petaflops it takes just 2 hours!
The Sequoia is owned by the US Government.
In about 6 months they expect an upgrade with double that speed
Anyone looking for a used Sequoia? :D

There's something called Moore's Law, according to which the computation power of computers doubles every 18 months !

This is what has been happening over the past 10 years, and projecting it ahead to the next 10 years is simply mind boggling!

So you may be proved right soon :)
