I think the guide is fairly generic but maybe it's because I'm more technical. I don't like the big and cheap hosting companies, their support is usually poor and you often share with thousands or more on a single server. I actually don't recommend shared web hosting now at all especially if you value security and don't want your site hacked because of another site's vulnerabilities. VPS servers are cheap enough now, I recommend getting one with a managed control panel and you'll have a much quicker, reliable and secure setup than shared web hosting.

Godaddy and Rackspace all the way, depends on the size of ur pocket...!

I think GoDaddy is one of the worst services you can choose both for reliability and customer service. RackSpace is great and has excellent service and uptime but is also quite overpriced.

Godaddy services are pretty damn good for the money they ask. Very competitive and very reliable. If one dont cross lines of spamming and other not allowed stuff....!
