I read an interesting article today. Some unfortunate couple are finding it hard to conceive so they are targetting women students at Cambridge University to become egg donors.
In the UK there is a cap on the amount you can pay a donor for their eggs. It is £750. This figure is arrived at as the compensation for the amount of inconvenience you have to go through to be a donor. It involves drugs to be taken and an invasive procedure to harvest the eggs.
There is no such cap in the US and potential donors have been targeted at Stamford University offering £100,000 for donotions of students eggs.
I'm not sure I would donate for £750 but $100,000 is a different matter altogether. This isn't something I'm going to lose sleep over as I don't attend Stamford or Cambridge and was lucky to gain entry to UCLAN. That sounds posh but I did hair and beauty and so did half the population of Bolton.
Could you see yourself donating? I would, for the money.
