What Would You Do If You Had Your Time Over? Dec 27, 2011
I always wished I'd become a solicitor, well tried to become a solicitor, anyway.

I've changed my mind and if I had my time again, I'd become a doctor. I mean, how hard can it be?

I have a friend who is a doctor, not a GP but a proper doctor who weilds a scalpel.

I hardly ever go to see my GP. I can pretty much tell what he/she will say so unless I need a prescription, I stay away.
I do, ocasionally, run my ailments past my friend who gives me his advice. It's usually eat healthily, do excercise blah blah yawn yawn. He complains that I don't like anything healthy and he's damned right as this morning he recommended cinnamon and ginger tea! Yuk.

You go to the doctor and tell him what is the matter with you. An animal can't tell a vet what the problem is, so it must be harder to be a vet, I reckon.

So in my next life I will be a Doctor and earn thousands of £'s a year. If you need any on-line diagnosis, just ask! I could hold a DF surgery! Doctor BM, it has a ring to it! That would be well good :D

If you had your time again, what would you be?

I'm gonna hold you to the on-line diagnoses BM!

I could have been a great football player IMO. A defender, nobody could get passed me, the good way or the not good way. My knickname was the pitbull. My free kicks were phenomenal. Think Ronald Koeman. Booze and women got the best of me though.

Or a weather man, don't know why really.

Isn't that odd, the two men who replied would like to have been professional sportsmen.

General!

I thought of you tonight when a piece came on the news about boxing. There are two boxers in the UK at the moment with the same name. Liam Walsh.
Liam Walsh is a light welter weight who has over come hurdles in his life. He doesn't go to a gym but runs the streets of Halifax and trains in his cellar. His family was involved in the drug scene and Liam was shot.

Walsh's family has been ravaged by drug addiction and prison for two decades; and he has survived being shot. Now, full of courage and hope, and believing he may be on the brink of transformation just hours before his first televised bout, the 29-year-old grins at his futile attempt to generate some moisture in his mouth.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011/no ... -interview

The other Liam Walsh is a middleweight from Sheffield who hopes to turn professional next year. He, too, had a dodgy start. He was stabbed 7 times and nearly died. He discovered boxing when his mum took him to a local gym to vent his frustrations.
Boxing has been their savior.

FD. I was channel hopping yesterday and came across a programme about Ronaldo. Can't say I was a big fan but was mighty impressed by the scientific tests they did on his body.
They raced him against a sprinter over 25mtres, he was only 0.3 seconds slower but 0.60 seconds faster over a zig zag sprint.
The most impressive test, I thought, was when they got another footballer to take a corner. The ball was mid flight and the lights in the stadium were turned off. Ronaldo was able to score on both corners as he was able to anticipate where the ball was going to be placed from the position of the player taking the corner. They replicated the test with another footballer, who couldn't score.
The test was moved on so that the lights were turned off just as the corner was taken. Ronaldo scored! Amazing!!
I was telling my dad all about it. He is convinced Sir Stanley Matthews was the best footballer of all time followed by George Best. Women and drink got the better of him. I thought of you FD :D

I bettered my life BM, George never did. Ah, that was then, couldawouldashoulda. I have seen another amazing talent doing the same. I played with him and he was sold to Feyenoord at a very young age. Thats when his trouble started. A year after his transfer he died in a car crash.

I think Johan Cruijff is the best foottie player ever, but I might be biased.

Which Ronaldo was that? Chistiano or the Lima?

er that's why it takes 7 years to qualify as a vet and only 4 as a doctor! Doctors don't earn that much, unless you specialise. I always wanted to be a vet, but I'm not very good with the sciences.

Doctors don't earn much? I wish I was a couple of quid behind them.

It was Chistiano FD. What happened to the other one, didn't he have a fit once just before a World Cup match?

If I am not mistaken, that was the final against France in 1998. The game before, in the semi-finals, he scored against Holland. [insert angry smiley]. Reminder 1998? The marvalous goal of the non-Flying Dutchman (Dennis Bergkamp) against Argentina in the last minute. The ice-man at his best.

And those famous words said by Kenneth Wolsenholme, 'they think it's all over....it is now'

Uhm...I wasn't born yet. I have visited the old Wembley stadium though and did the tour (I still have a pic with me with a replica FA cup standing right in front of the royal chair  ). There was a 1966 special. What a game!

Chocoholic ,

er that's why it takes 7 years to qualify as a vet and only 4 as a doctor!

 Errr, a doctor does four years of undergraduate then four years of medical, then several years (usually 3) as an underpaid intern. It would worry me if all it took was graduating high school and jumping into college/med school for 4 years to qualify as a surgeon. For a vet it requires 4 years of under graduate college, then 4 years at vent school, then usually do a 2 year internship.

Your numbers of 7 years for a vet and 4 years for a doctor, are way off.

You know how to kick a girl FD. :?

I did a project at school on the 1966 World Cup. My teacher was well impressed and offered to swop his son for me. :D

My favourite English squad was the 1970 one with Colin Bell (nick named Nijinski after the race horse) and Francis Lee, both from Manchester City. Colin Bell was born a few miles from where I was born and it was him playing for Man City that got me supporting that team.
I went to their ground a couple of years ago to his book signing, he was always my hero.
All the squad was given a Ford Cortina with a black vynil roof for being in the 1970 squad. I promised myself I would have one of those one day and I got one when we lived in Germany, although it was a Ford Taunus. Same difference.

Bora Bora , I did say until a doctor specialises, then of course studying for that takes how ever many years. Well back in the day it used to be 7 years for vets - I did all the research as it was what I was going to do, I have no idea how long it takes these days. But given the anatomy of animals vary wildly, it's obvious it will take a long time.

Anyho, there's lots of things I'd do if I had to start over, but whow ants to start over? Move on.

Take a chill pill Chocs, It's only a bit of fun!

I'm not sure I'd want to start over but I wish I'd known then, what I know now.

Re: What Would You Do If You Had Your Time Over? Dec 29, 2011
My parents chose my calling for me! So I spent the first few years resenting what I was doing. Then one fine morning I realized I was quite enjoying myself. Now, looking back, I loved it :D . And I think the resentment may have been nothing more than insecurity and the fear of failing :o
So, I would do it all over again, but this time without the resentment 8)
As an alternative, I would have liked being a Director of Films i.e a Movie Director. In fact I did make some secret inquiries just recently  The local University here has a 3 year graduate degree.
What put me off was that they start work at 4 am in the morning! They also suggested that in order to get a feel for things, I might work in some related field attached to a filming set. We even explored this last option, and we came up with the suggestion of me working for the catering department  Just because I said I could do a nice baked Salmon :P. When will I learn to be a director then?
