Not sure where to post this, here or philosophy. I had this weekend some sort of career assessment workshop. Not my first, but it was very interesting. I did all sorts of test before, some were informational some were less interesting. This time we started with a test for the Myers Briggs Personality Types. Never heard of it, but it was very interesting and an eye-opener.

I am INTP - I think I first took the test about 15 years ago.. and taken it a few times since. Consistent results on preferences.

I use NLP concepts and personality types etc quite a bit in my work - I like the way it balances out the 'hard' aspects of my work - statistics/facts.

I enjoy marrying the analytical with the softer skills when dealing with people and organisations. Interestingly, when working I actually exhibit traits that go against my type - eg extroverted when presenting, training/coaching and facilitating - and above all marketing and selling, but my preference is Introvert.

It is a tool, but one that reflects your preferences at the time of filling in the survey (and assuming you've filled it in consistently and honestly).

I had to do a test of this type prior to being accepted onto a management training programme. I meant to dig it out of my drawer when I saw this topic but was so busy at work, I forgot!
When i read it, I couldn't believe how accurate it was, just built on the answers to some random timed questions.
I remember that I was a leader and not a follower.

hold on, i remmember doing such a test about three years ago in which depending on the result we would be interviewd by some sort of a specialist, so when i sat and did the other part of the test with her and then began the interview, she looked at me with a smile and glazing eyes and she said: i have never met am emotional nor as sentimental as you are, you love everyone around you and everyone trusts you and bla bla bla, that woman almost cried, i was like what the hell is going on woman, you need help lol, i wanted to get out of there right away, that sh11 freaked me out, and now that i'm looking at some similar results here, then something must be right about them tests, which also freaks me out

Yes, it can be freaky how it can hit home. INFP's for example are intuitive feelers. In a business environment I always placed more value on a veteran being in the business for 20-30 years having a bad or good feeling about something than a 100 page report with tables and graphs specifying why a certain choice need to be made. In private INFP's need more than the average bear. They are attrackted to sub-cultures instead of mainstream. I rather play pool in a dark pub than attending a cocktail party with suits.
