I'm moving to Dubai soon and looking at various places to get an apartment. For now I have short listed a few localities, would appreciate your comments/feedback on which is better. I'm looking for a 1 bed and my budget is 60,000/year.

1). Marina
2). Jumeriah Beach Residence
3). The Greens
4). Deira
5). Downtown

More FYI to make your suggestions more useful to me. I'm a single guy so I'll be looking to meet other singles and party a bit, also it would take me a month or so to get my driving license.

Well, as am owner in JBR I would have to say JBR/the Marina is the place to be. The Walk, JBR, is the place to be on an evening. You can walk out of your apartment and have restaurants and hotels on your doorstep.

Even if you are not looking for a place to eat, a stroll along the Walk is nice to pass the time. If you are approached by a prostitute, just say 'no thanks' politely.

If you like sports, pop into the bar of the Movenpick. I think it's home of Spurs supporters but don't let that put you off.

You budget is a bit low for JBR but you may find a desperate landlord. FYI I have a furnished place and can earn aed9500 per month on a long let without a problem.

Loads of palces in the Marina in your budget, not a problem at all. Just be aware that certain areas/buidlings do not like 'bachelors'.

Why do you put bachelors in inverted commas?

Bethsmum , because it's for 'certain' bachelors. Basically some areas don't like single guys of certain nationalities if I'm going to be blunt about it.

Dubai can be a somewhat racist place! I've been living here 2 weeks and I'm amazed at some of the things I hear!

Well that's the UAE. The same as certain people get asked to pay to enter certain establishments, whilst it's free for others. Happens all over here, just the way it goes. They did a mass clear out of bachelors in the Discovery Garden area a couple of years ago.
