It appears that it's not only in Dubai, where you can be prosecuted for what you write on Facebook.

Yesterday two men were jailed for four years in the UK for trying to organise a riot in their home town via Facebook. They turned up for the rendevous only to find a Policeman who promptly arrested them!

Magistrates have been told to throw away the guidelines on sentencing for the hooligans, so now we have the do-gooders saying the Courts are going way over the top.

In my opinion, they should be made an example of and let it deter others in the future.

Crimewatch special is on BBC Thursday at 8pm, a riot edition! Let's hope for a few more arrests after showing some more ugly mugs on National TV

I think they deserve to be jailed however the comparison with Dubai isnt that valid.

There is a difference between being jailed/fined for
1) Organizing a riot
and
2) Critisizing a colleague

They didn't organise a riot, no-one turned up. It was the riot that never was.

Does this mean even a married couple exchanging steamy sms's are liable to be charged ?

Etisalat and du have a clause in their licence to ensure their services are not used contrary to public order and public good," Mr Brazeau said.

Mass monitoring of electronic communication could be done with software that scans for particular words, he said.

"You can simply request that, if a certain cluster of words come up it can be captured," Mr Brazeau said.

But such systems are not infallible and could implicate the innocent.

"If a married couple are feeling romantically inclined and are exchanging romantic messages, they may find themselves in an embarrassing situation," Mr Brazeau said.
