Ramadan Kareem!!! Aug 01, 2011
Let me be the first to say: Ramadan Kareem!!! :D

Long days and the hot weather makes fasting all that more difficult. Wishing you an easy fast. :)

Ramadan Kareem to all, I hope this Muslim holy Month helps to bring more tolerance and understanding to the Forum.

I hope people do remember the true meanings of Ramadan and don't unnecessarily waste huge amounts of food at commercial Iftars, as happens every year. Personally I'd rather see the food and money spent on these going to charity.

Let's show some tolerance on the roads too and try not to kill each other.

Ramadan Kareem

Generally when people say "Ramadan Kareem" it is meant with a good spirit, not followed with complaints.

You might want to start a new thread: Food Waste - During Ramadan, Friday Brunches, hotels that have 3 buffets a day, restaurants that have 1 or 2 buffets a day. Now there's an abundance of waste!!!

Eid Mubarak translates to "blessed festival" or "feast", and is generally said as it relates to the Eid Holiday, which is a celebration.

Mubarak means blessed,
Kareem means generous.
and sometimes when someone says: 'Ramadan Kareem' the other say: 'Allaho Akram' : Allah is more generous.

So basically both can be used commonly, for the Eid it is also common to use "Eid Saeed" means "Happy Eid".

Moreover to add to Mahmood's post, if I'm not mistaken the term "Ramadan Kareem" has been adopted from Turkey (Ottomans), along with the term "Allah Kareem" which is surely from the Ottomans.
The cannon of Ramadan you see before the Iftar is also borrowed from the Turks ;)

Regardless that the word "Kareem" is an Arabic word, but the phrases come from different cultures that not necessarily Arab speaking people. Generally speaking the Islamic civilization has two main languages Arabic and Persian, thus a lot of combination and mixed phrases are found having roots from both Semitic origins (Arabic), and Indo-European (Persian), which I think is really unique and beautifull.
