Yorkshire Day! Aug 02, 2011
I can't believe I nearly missed wishing my favourite Yorkshireman Happy Yorkshire Day!

It doesn't seem a year since I wished you all the best on JBRcommunity, Dillon! How time flies :D

How have you celebrated this year Dillon? Here's a few examples of what you fellow countrymen were enjoying!

dig out the flat caps, whip up those Yorkshire puds and dust off your white rose.

Today is the day when Tykes can hold their heads high to celebrate God’s Own County.

For the last 36 years, the county has proudly celebrated Yorkshire Day and a string of events will be held across the region to mark it.
Scones
Free tea, scones and Yorkshire parkin will handed out at Ilkley’s Winter Gardens this morning.
Haworth businesses also organised a weekend of celebration in the village, with free Yorkshire food tastings, including in the Visitor Information Centre.

Shoppers at Asda in Pudsey, Leeds, can sample traditional Yorkshire delicacies today, while the store’s signs will be translated to represent the Yorkshire dialect.

Staff at Yorkshire Building Society will be handing out white roses and Yorkshire Tea samples to customers throughout the day.

No one is more passionate about where they come from than Yorkshire people.”

Thank you for your wishes BM, this Year we're meeting at a friends house in the Springs to celebrate the great day, menu is a hot and cold buffet with a Yorkshire theme and he tells me he has some Theakston's Old Peculier as well so I'm looking forward to that one!

Yorkshire in Verse

Sing a song of Yorkshire, from the Humber to the Tees.
Of horses, wool and terriers, of pudding and of cheese.
I know no other county where the land is quite so fine.
England's lovely county. And I'm proud to call it mine.

Where shining purple heather stretches far across the moor,
and the lapwing's cry above me takes the place of traffic roar.
And peace comes drifting gently, there's no place I'd rather be
than this land of hills and valleys, from the Pennines to the sea.

So when I've done my roaming, and when my step grows slow;
when heart and mind assure me that the time has come to go,
then let me rest in Yorkshire, for it's there I want to lie
'neath sun and wind and heather… and a gleaming Yorkshire sky.
