I'm Boycotting... Jul 07, 2011
I'm boycotting e-mail on the weekends....

From 1 January, I stopped opening e-mail at dinner time (that is, no e-mail reading till next morning and only after breakfast). Now I will not open e-mail on weekends.

I'm also thinking of boycotting the internet on weekends but for now I am not.

I'm sure you wanted to know this

What happens in an emergency Ambassador, and if you are gainfully employed, what will your employer say to you ignoring your email?

On a side note, I see you mention 'dinner time' as opposed to lunch time. I, too, call lunch, dinner. What do you call dinner? I call it tea, that's unless someone invites me out to dinner, then I'd turn up at 8pm.

Supper is tea and toast at casa BM. I try to avoid fish at supper time.

BM I think Ambassador is from my side of the pond. We drink tea, we don't do tea.

It's usually in this order:
Breakfast
Lunch
Dinner (also referred to as supper)
and drinking tea or coffee in between. :D

But sometimes I do: (A) Breakfast/Dinner; (B) Lunch/Dinner; (C) Lunch/Breakfast. Of course there is coffee in between/before/after. :D

Oh, the factories may be roaring
With a boom-a-lacka, zoom-a-lacka, wee
But there isn't any roar when the clock strikes four
Everything stops for tea

Oh no! another dilema! Now we are not only confused about the Ambassador's gender, but also his/her nationality, although I have to say I think he/she is English. After all he/she did say dinner time, and so do I!

Well Bora, I see you are mixing meal times up, but you didn't mention BM's favourite, which is dinner / breakfast :D

I don't do that supper business! When I was a kid my mother used to give us a clip if we asked for supper because it meant that you hadn't eaten your tea, which was a crime in our house!

@Dillon, I have having a 'brew' at the moment. A good cup of Yorkshire tea. By the 'eck, it would put hairs on yer chest :D

No Bora, that's a cup of tea.

I googled it! :D

Many Australians and New Zealanders call the early evening meal "tea", while others refer to it as "dinner", both terms are understood to refer to the same thing. Calling a meal "tea" reflects the custom of northern England, Wales, and Scotland where "tea" refers to an evening meal.

There you go! Tea is what you eat at tea time!

Re: I'm Boycotting... Jul 08, 2011
So then in summary

Breakfast; the first meal of the day to ‘break your fast’
11:00
Elevenses; a mid morning snack of tea or coffee with a biscuit
11:00-14:00
Brunch; for those who missed breakfast and combine it with their midday meal (mainly American)
Lunch; a light midday meal (mainly upper/working class)
Dinner; the main meal of the day (mainly middle/working class)
15:00-16:00
Afternoon tea; a break for tea and a biscuit (mainly England)
High tea; tea and toast, (mainly Scotland)
17-00-20:00
Tea; main meal of the day (mainly working class)
Dinner; main meal of the day (mainly middle/working class)
Supper; main meal of the day (mainly upper class)
17:00-24:00
Fish Supper; fried fish with chips, can also be Scotch pie, Haggis, Pizza or Mars bar (exclusively Scotland)
22:00-24:00
Supper; light snack before bed (mainly middle/working class)
Midnight feast; pig out before bed ( mainly the uneducated or people with a troubled mind)

Confused? Me too!

Ooh! And BOTH my grandfathers used to chew their tea leaves after their afternoon tea and spit out the spent leaves on the rose beds! ‘Waste not want not’ eeh?

@BM, unfortunately, Yorkshire Tea just doesn't make the grade in Dubai, it must be the water! the best everyday tea I have found is Tetley's, and Dammann Breakfast Darjeeling, is the best I have ever tasted! and it's French! can you believe it?

One, of course, could always do Luncheon.

This is the posh version of the midday meal and no to be confused with the spam look-a-like that comes in tins and is laughingly called 'Luncheon meat'.
