Guide to renting -- dos and don'ts?? Mar 27, 2006
Hi there,

I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to help me out please? I'm moving to Dubai over the next couple of weeks, and whilst I will be given accomodation for the first couple of weeks, I still need to find a place of my own.

Could anyone tell me about the rules of renting flats over there? IE: what deposit do I pay (is it one month's rent), how is rent paid every month, what happens with additional things like water & electricity?

Anything I should avoid or look out for??

Also, I noticed that a lot of listings in the Gulf News classifieds quotes rental rates per year -- does that mean I have to pay it all at once or can I pay monthly?

Cheers guys.

Good luck in your search, deposits can be 5-10% of rent, realtor fees if applicable are 5% and rent is usually payable in advance and by year.

There is a lot of information on here with more specifics; you just need to use the search function.

Rach182, don't be afraid to ask your company to arrange for someone to give you an orientation to Dubai and help you find a place. There are companies here that do that, for example The Specialists http://www.thespecialistsdubai.com/
