However, the most innocuous of subjects, like the weather, for example, can be turned around into a flaming fight: "My weather is better than yours......!!" sort of thing.
Such is the nature of the beast!

To quote an English poet and author, Rudyard Kipling:
"OH, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet....."

I myself do not subscribe to this; but I can see that on DF some certainly do!

Kipling is often misquoted with this line of an incomplete opening and closing verse from ‘The Ballad of East and West’

Oh, East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God's great Judgment Seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,

The first two lines are referring to physical entities which will never meet, but the second two lines and the essence of the Ballad is of the strength and honour of man, wherever he is from, and the resourcefulness and ability of strong men to overcome life’s prejudices and resolve their disputes.

Only the ignorant would concede that this could not be possible within a multinational community of educated contributors, whether in real life or virtual.
