Hello!

I wondered whether anyone has had a problem with their water heaters corroding? We are in a newish property in the Springs and recently had a water heater burst... the service engineers said they are corroded due to the salt water and to expect them to last only a year.

Obviously we're concerned about this because of the potential water damage to the property and would like to buy and fit non corrosive water heaters in the property. Have you had this problem and been able to find a suitable long lasting water heater?

i would assume that as with "the gardens" development the developer opted to install the cheapest geyser ever manufactured to cut corners; they obvioulsy overlooked the fact that they were responsible for replacinging them when they packed up....

the inside of most geysers are copper so corrosion from salt (or salty/ alakine) water is not an issue, the problem comes in where cheap seals and elements are used, these do corrode.

additionally, deposits of salt (contained in the water) can build up on the element as well as on the inlet and outlet pipes to the geyser, causing blockages which can contribute to the failure of the unit. if you look at the element of your kettle you will get a good idea of what i mean.

in short, if or when you replace the geyser get a decent unit which will cost a bit more, but hopefully carry some kind of gaurentee. on the specifics of the unit .... hopefuly someone out there can help.
