Just a hideous story!

I hope justice is brought swiftly to those responsible and no cover up is involved. Another blot on Dubai's reputation.

In summary:
Don't believe everything you read in the UK papers or the Dubai media.
The police have a responsibility to answer for as he died in their custody.
Someone died, that is sad no matter what the circumstances.

For the first three statements you made: you know all of that for an absolute, total fact?? If you do, then you know more than everyone else that has spoken out on what happened.
As DK said the security at Burj Al Arab are all South African ex-military/police. The person who was the Director of Security - who is no longer there - brought all his mates with him to the hotel - and I'm sure that they all had blood on their hands. They are far worse that any police in Dubai. This person, would brag about how many blacks he killed in SA. His delivery was believeable because he was someone you didn't want to come across in a dark alley if he had a problem with you.
I wouldn't be surprised if the security at the Burj were the ones who beat the guy and as a result he suffered internal injuries that caused his death. Maybe the Dubai police should turn their attention to the Burj security. I know that the former Director of Security had created interrogation rooms in the sub-basement of the hotel and held many an "interrogation" there.
What word did your friend utter at the airport in London? Was it "terrorist"? Was it "bomb"? That would get anyone arrested in the UK, the US, Australia, and even in the UAE!!!!

Nowhere does it claim that Dubai officials have refused to release the body to British authorities.
Once again, a shallow dig by a sleaze newspaper without a single concrete fact, probably made up on the spot by a sub editor with column inches to fill.
Let us wait until an official statement is made by the British Consulate here, they are about the only people you could trust as they are 'on the ground' and know the terrain. It will possibly be couched in diplomatic tones as the UK would hate to hack off their favourite Ascot sponsor, but might contain a grain of truth.
