Advice needed - Installing lights in the Springs Mar 16, 2006
Apua! Can any of you who live in the Springs give some advice about installing ceiling lights?

We have the default fixture and bare bulb set-up right now, and we assume that we need to do the following to install our own lights.

a) Shut off the power to the affected light sockets.

b) Remove the bulb and use an electric screwdriver to unscrew the screws on the default fixture.

c) Strip the end of the wires and attach them to the electrical bit on our new lights. (Then somehow figure out how to keep the new lights stable - maybe need to drill in a hook or something?) We have no idea how many wires are there or what it looks like because haven't unscrewed anything yet!

Right now we are waiting to borrow a ladder because the upstairs ceilings are quite high, so we can't even reach the lights.

Did anyone here install the lights themselves and can you let me know if I am on the right track? or did you hire someone to do it for you?

Thank you very much in advance :)

Some guys who came for the 11 month check of electrical issues before the 1 year free fixing contract ends for the villa owner. They were either Arabtec or Emrill, don't remember - had blue overalls on :)

Good you gave up the "DIY" spirit.

After 2 months, 6 holes, and..... busted driller, penny wide holes, curtains falling 4 times....

I called Emril to fix my curtains, and it is easy.

My onlyl problem is the timings, as their working time are my working time, and the curtain guy on don't come on saturday :(

had to go home early to fix the curtains...

Glad you didn't go through my experience

Actually, we did the DIY for our curtains. A few bracket ends starting coming off the wall because of the large holes appearing after drilling (cheap walls!), so I got crafty and stuffed dental sticks around the plastic screw holders in the wall. It tightened the space and the screws stayed firm in the wall, so all is well with the curtain brackets now.

Not cheap walls-plasterboard!! The fixings are diff for plasterboard. Also for hanging pictures you'll need a stud finder (not your husband tho'!!  ) and you'll need special fixings not nails, nor plugs and screws that you normally use for double brick.
