Hangover Cures.

Hangover Cures. Mar 17, 2011
BM took some flexi time off yesterday and decided to visit her friend in the north-east for some R&R, we went on the lash. :drunken:
I left work and took the A66, Penrith to Scotch Corner and wow, I have never seen fog like it! I couldn't see a hand in front of my face. Well I was ambling along, knucles white around the steering wheel, frightened I was going to come across some slow moving tractor or worse, a gypo caravan, when who should fly past me, but some super human male with xray vision driving a white BMW. Now. BM, being pre-drink at this stage, had a bright idea. If I can keep with in a safe stopping distance and still see his very bright fog lights, I, too can drive at 90mph in thick fog! My plan worked, I got there in one piece and lived to tell the tale.

Now on the way back this morning, the weather was a lot better, only patchy fog today. I was feeling a bit fragile so put some easy listening on the CD, a NOW somenumber or other from the 80's. I had to do a bit of track hopping when Kylie started doing the Locomotion but came across a Wet Wet Wet song.

I pay the price for cheap advice

Sick of leaving in the morning
With the night you gave away
So now I'm gonna take that all that I can get
With those angel eyes
You make saints do sins all the time

Say I'm gonna stay, home and away, well well,
When I said I'd catch you when you're falling
I'd have my heart open wide
And you who's not naive I thought
Say I thought I'd mend my heart

What's that all about then?

Well back to the topic! I woke this morning with what I can only describe as wine flu. My gums hurt, my legs don't belong to my body and someone has a tourique around the top of my head and is slowly tightening it.
My usual cure for a hangover is a BigMac, there wasn't a MacDonalds in sight! I am now onto my second set of paracetomols with lots of black coffee. Nothing is working. I'm at work so sleeping it off is out of the question.
Any advice on hang over cures?

Thanks FD. I increased my intake of Council pop and Chocolate Orange segments and it worked wonders! I'm now on my second glass of Pino Grigio, I'm right out of Chardonnay! :drunken:

I worked late tonight, my hangover has disappeared. I think it was the bag of cheese crisps dipped in a pot of Hummus that sorted me out. I'll have to remember that for future reference.

FD has it spot on, Fluids and Sugars.

Did you know that Coca Cola was originally marketed as a hangover cure? It did however contain cocaine at that time so it would also have had the benefit of the ‘Hair of the dog’ effect as well as providing the fluids and sugars.

I guess the likes of the caffeine free sports drinks would be the ideal solution today, slow and fast absorbing sugars in a drink?

Not too sure about cheese crisps and Hummus though?

Alcohol is a downer, while cocaine is an upper. so cocaine wouldnot have the same effect. I doubt cocaine is beneficial taking hungover effects away, not a good idea anyways.
When using alcohol and cocaine together the effects of both are leveled out more or less, and it will be hard to get drunk. Which is probably one of worst ideas, mixing uppers with downers.
The best is still preparation, have a good meal before going and drink enough water during the night out.

If still needed, jogging the next day always helps. Sweating it all out.

Why not? Keeps you awake. The effects of Red Bull are obviously minimal compared to cocaine.

I don't know about that? I usually end up falling about laughing when I enjoy a few sherbets!

Sound logic, take the cure of the effect with the cause and eliminate the symptoms before they develop?

My friend recommends Borocca. I've never heard of it but she says it's a dissolvable vitamin tablet which gives you an energy boost. She dissolves it in orange which gives you a double whammy. The only draw back is that it makes your wee orange

The tipple of the moment in these parts is Jagermeister in shot glasses floating in Red Bull. It tastes like Vino's Cough Syrup to me.

When we lived in Germany, years ago, we used to take a little bottle of Jagermeister on long walks in the winter, it really warmed you up. A while ago we went to the local Indian from work and someone bought me this drink. I was a bit dubious but had a go, it was Jagermeister in Red Bull. It brought back memories but I still wasn't keen. It's mega popular round here.

Something else that the kids (when I say kids, I mean over 18's) seem to be into is eyeballing. I can't say I've ever seen it as I don't frequent the pubs round here that much, if at all. They pour vodka straight into their eyes. Apparantly, it saves you from tasting it and it's cheaper as you don't need that much to get the effect.

I'd be worried about my eyesight.
