Occupations you admire... Mar 06, 2011
I don't know why but I was thinking about this over the weekend...

What are the occupations that I admire most.

Here is my list.

1. Teachers
2. Nurses
3. Volunteer soldiers in time of war (I mean they joined knowing they would likely face combat).

What about you?

Veternarians
School Teachers
Scientists who do research on matters of health

That's all that I can think about at the moment.

1. Spies (especially if they have a French accent) :D
2. Members of any Armed Force (including the IDF)

@Ambassador, are you sure you don't mean mercerenaries? The volunteer soldiers who form part of the British services won't have joined up just to go into conflict. Most of them will have been in the TA for years and be fully trained. They are called up when needed and their employers give them leave to join their units.
All members of the British Forces join up knowing they will have to fight for their country at some stage, that's why they are all heroes. Even years ago when we weren't involved big time in the ME there was always NI to sort out. My ex husband served in NI on a number of occasions and we had friends killed there. It would have saved me thousands in divorce costs if it had been him, but that's another story.

Is it the word that sounds nice or the occupation Mahmoud? Geologist? It doesn't sound very sexy.

No. What I mean is joining the arm forces in time of war. For the Brits it means that if they join now there is a possibility of serving in Afghanistan or Iraq. As opposed to to having joined in 1990 where the chances of seeing combat were less (I think)...

How is politics an occupation without one being a politican?

The definition of politician tends to be convoluted, the mere mention of one is often associated with corruption and greed. So it's much simpler to say I admire the profession, not so much the professionals.

In English language, do you have a different use between an occupation and an occupier for a job determination..
Becouse the subject is about occupations and not the job occupiers..

You might want to add pedicurists. I applaud those women!!! Has to be one of the dirtiest jobs and you need a strong stomach to do it. (But, that's just my opinion)

Do you want to add waxers to that as well? I dread to think of some of the things they come across!
