Catastrophe at Casa BM last night! Beth dropped her Blackberry in the bath and it isn't looking too healthy.

It was only under water for a matter of seconds. We took it to pieces and let it dry out naturally. To be honest it didn't seem all that wet inside.

Not long ago my friend said he dropped his in the pool and it lived!

Beth is attached to that phone but has had to use some really embarrassing Nokia that she used to have in Year 9, oh the shame of it! The sim card from the BB works in the Nokia but when you put the sim card back in the BB and the battery and stick the back on, all seems well until you get a message to say No Sim Card (or something).

Any ideas? Is it knackered? Am I looking at a new phone?

Yes and Yes most likely.

try putting the battery and phone in a bag with rice to let it dry out. i had dropped a phone into the bath and this trick completely dried it out and let me save all the pictures/contacts off the phone.

edit: make sure the battery is removed from the phone, to allow it to dry separately

Very good idea. Also BM make sure you clean the connections really well on both the phone, SIM and battery.

It would appear that Blackberries can be problematic, maybe you'd be better off with an Apple?

Thanks everyone for your advice. At the moment Beth's BB is buried in a bag of basmati. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I'm under serious pressure to purchase a BB curve. Little Miss Beth is missing her BBM's with the local Emirati lads. I have to admit I can see where she is coming from. I can't remember my BFs looking like this when I was 15 LOL Down Tiger!

What a waste!! I would've settled for a plate of Biryani instead.

It was a waste too. Sadly the phone died after it's bath. I wondered whether to recycle the basmati but decided against it.
