Non-Muslim Expat Wills Invalid in UAE Feb 28, 2011
Wills drawn up by aliens??? are not recognized in the UAE. Very gray area. I would assume expats who are Muslim would automatically fall under Sharia law as far as the government is concerned, in spite of the existence of a will, but non-Muslim as well???? I guess this shouldn't come as a surprise because expats, regardless of reglious persuasion, live under Sharia law in all respects.

Dubai: A clash within the UAE's law can leave grieving expatriate families with less than they were due to receive from a loved one's will.

In one case, a British woman's husband died. The deceased husband had children from an earlier marriage, surviving parents, and there was the wife and her two children. Instead of being a 100 per cent beneficiary — as per her deceased husband's will — she ended up with a share of only 12.5 per cent. Why is this?

The "article" seems to me like a "plug" for some 'symposium". Whilst inheretance law is complicated in Dubai and elsewhere (really) the law under the same article goes on to state:

"The substantive provison governing testamentary dispositions and other dispositions taking effect after death shall be governed by the law of the state of which the person making such dispostion is a national at the time of his death".

The "issue" might apply to real estate only unless proper estate planning is done...and an issue primarily where someone dies intestate (without a will).
