Hi,

Have left Dubai about 2 yrs ago at the height of the economic crisis. Now I am being offered my old job back.

I am hesitating whether to accept the offer or not. I hate to go through the trouble I had to go through last time. My question: Do you guys think that the economic conditions in Dubai are now stable enough to come back to?

I would appreciate your feedback.

I suggest you stay put where you are, it's still iffy here.

Dubai may be drawing back from the brink, but may take some time. However, going back really depends on your current situation,isnt it?
If what you are offered is better than what you have, then go for it.....

Beside the pay, I think it also depends on the field you are in. For example, construction-related industries remain lifeless, but the others have somewhat picked up.. (in varying degrees!)

The newly offered pay package is very generous. Otherwise, I would not even consider it.

I work in the health care sector, namely in management.

But the problem is that my work requires stability and long term commitment in order for me to be able to do a good job. I also need enough funding for hiring highly qualified personnel and for acquiring the latest equipment. The last time I was there, when the economic conditions began to worsen, they started to fire the good “costly” staff and replacing them with inferior “cheaper” staff. Plus they only had a small budget to barely maintain the existing equipment, and no money for buying new equipment. Under these awful conditions, I had to resign and leave. Now, they say, it’s all “rosy” and not to worry about a thing. But I’ve heard that before. So, I just wanted get the opinion and “feel” of the people who still live and work in Dubai, regarding the city’s economic outlook. Do you think the so-called current recovery is sustainable, or are things still shaky over there?

Is there any way that they can have you come over for a week just to reassure you? If I was you, I would stay where you are if it has everything you need - as in security. There is a very very slow recovery here and companies will never get to the leve they were at before the economy tanked.. Depending on what field you are in and what the company does, I would find it hard to believe that they are where they were before the cutbacks.

I agree with DSS and BB. If you are content where you are, don’t bother to come. The extra money is not really worth it.

Most of the world economies are still teetering, and we have not seen, as yet, a real, solid recovery anywhere.

Therefore, I too suggest you stay put where you are, until the picture becomes much clearer.

What is happening in the region puts a new glow behind Dubai. And the glow feels uncomfortably hot like something is on fire.
And nobody is in Dubai because of the long term stability that it offers. Its all living and working from day to day. Decades pass like this for many.
