Dubai: The UAE's mounting garbage problem has kicked up a debate among officials and environmentalists, some of whom believe it is high time to implement a pay-as-you-throw scheme (PAYT) in which people would be asked to pay for every bag or kg of trash they throw, just as they pay for every litre of sewage or kilowatt of electricity.

Um, Im ignorant about these types of issues, But exactly how can you enforce people to pay for your garbage ?

How is that going to solve the problem ? Why cant all of it be incinerated ?

Yup, more ways to fleece the "residents" nothing else.

90% of it could be recycled if they were serious about reducing garbage volume.

We are already paying for garbage collection as part of the community fees.

We are already paying for waste collection as part of the community fees in addition to the costs and environmental impact of the landfill sites as part of the housing fee, but let’s face it, if additional services of separated waste collection are introduced, it will provide an ideal opportunity for the relevant authorities to revise their costs and charging strategy, and there’s no prizes for guessing in which direction the charges will go!
