US soldiers to face court-martial in Afghan killings Jan 11, 2011

Wonder how many of these incidents go unreported or uninvestigated, seems this came to light only after one of them blew the whistle. How many of these play station generation out there thinking its just a video game and they are there to "get some"

Good for the Army court to take action on this, lets see if justice is served in this case or is let go with a slap on the wrist i.e dishonourable discharge a few months or even years in the brig etc etc.

Every little helps.

Sometimes I feel sorry for the 'grunts' as it were. These kids sometimes do commit crimes and occasionally are tried for it.

But those that send them there or those that cause the death of thousands of civilians get away scot free.

Nothing more than I'd expect from you Shaf. Grunts. What a charming expression. You really need to raise your game a little bit. You are starting to sound like the white ferral underclass.

^I thought you were familiar with the vernacular used by the military.

'grunt' is a term used by the US military themselves, and grunts are proud to call themselves this term these days.

Of course, I understand that your automatic assumption is that a Muslim can't express solidarity with enlisted soldiers - but if you read what I wrote, I said I sympathise with these guys.

Meh, I wouldn't take it too seriously if I was you. Ol' BM needs a reason, just about any will do to make a hue and cry.

I am very familiar with military terminoligy and never once in my 40 year association with the military did I hear anyone refer to themselves as a 'grunt'. I think I am slightly more qualified on this matter than some Muslim sitting on a beach somewhere.

Well, again you've failed and confused your experience with facts/evidence/reality.

Have you actually asked anyone in the US military about what the term 'grunt' is used to refer to? (I could point you to military sites on the web which explain this, or even a simple Google search - but hey, you're a lady of experience).

It is a term specifically used by US soldiers - so I would not expect British infantry or military to use it to call themselves it (nor more than they'd use the term GIs)

Yes Shaf, I've lived in the real world. Unlike you apparantly. I suppose you are now going to say you didn't make up the term grunt, as you did with white ferral under class so it's ok to use it. I didn't make up the term 'dirty stinking paki' but I still wouldn't use it.

Happy to hear it. I am not out there to degrade and bully people, so I consider it a compliment. Besides that, considering what happened to you in the past, I can somehow understand your bitterness and you acting like a grumpy old man.

I'm loving the game of 'guess the contents the previous post based on the reply' - I'm sure the real posts are less witty than the one's I'm imagining.

I think I'm starting to understand the 'bitter bhais' of this world now - ignoring the facts and evidence does make for a more interesting point of view. :)

So BM - I take it you've now looked up the term 'grunt' (and notice that I used it in commas first time round too) and understand why I sympathise with them in this case.

I can only imagine the vitriol had I said anything bad about them!

Is that your warped idea of sympathy? You may go over a lot of peoples heads but not mine.

Now, now BM you really got to stop playing us now :D

There is one thread where you say your plain speaking but arn't thick, then there is this thread where you seem to have the uncanny ability to pick out things which are not there and by your own admission many wouldn't get it. Then there is this other thread where you couldn't pick up a simple contextual reference to a spade !

I just think ol' BM is being sneaky with us over here ;)

:)

DDS you shouldn't leave out the mind reading (I know what you are really thinking even though you may write exactly the opposite) and x-ray vision (albeit when it comes to discerning the make up of McDonald sandwiches).

But the old selective quote tactic never fails to amuse me.

For the record BM - yes, when I say feel sorry for someone - that does indeed meet my criterion for sympathy. The clue was in the word 'sorry'. :)

(But c'mon - fess up, you looked up the word 'grunt' didn't you and were a bit embarrassed by

PS - the dam-buster brigade seem to be having a collective sense of humour failure. Why don't you imagine you're winning the debate?! It may cheer you up, luv. ;)

And no, I didn't google grunt. I prefer to call our soldiers heros. A term you will never be familiar with.

Interesting that this thread is about US soldiers committing killings in Afghanistan, and yet the objections being raised are to a descriptive term used by the US military I used to express my sympathy for the lower ranks. Hmm.

BM - What's the ma'er luv, feeling a bit insecure? Sticks and stones ... :)

BTW - 'definitely' does not contain an 'a'. 'Peasants' seem to get a better kwality education these days - what ho? :D
