Niqab is an Arabic word for "mask". Masked men have been robbing banks since time immemorial. :bounce:
And while we are at it, why not talk about the Hoods of the KKK?

Zonker, your logic is extremely flawed.

A masked person in the street causes suspicion, whereas women walking around with niqab is accepted (though many people feel uncomfortable when they cannot see someone's face). This is exactly why the man used that kind of disguise - because he could circulate in the public while acceptably disguising his features.

I'm not sure what the KKK has to do with this? KKK members wore hoods for their ceremonies but did not walk around on the streets regularly wearing them.

Kanelli, when you dont get it, then the logic is flawed. Bank robbers, and other conmen and trcksters, have used all kinds of disguises. Just search the internet and you will see what I mean. So why particularly trawl the net and bring up the 'niqab'? Unless, of course, you want to be provocative, knowing fully well that DFers hail from all kinds of backgrounds/cultures.
Maybe you feel that you are too superior, for which I have no further comment. You would not be the first one to think like that. Peace. :)

Here is a line up of the suspects - Can you ID the culprit?

I'll have to agree with Zonks on this one, maybe panty hose, balaclavas, helmets, paperbags and masks of ex presidents should also be looked into seriously and should also be banned in places like France.

I wasn't aware that anyone regularly wore panty hose, balaclavas, face-covering helmets, paperbags and masks of ex presidents on a daily basis while they circulated in public. What is the reaction by people when they see someone dressed in one of those coming into a bank? Should they feel the same way when a woman (well, possibly a woman) in a niqab enters a bank?

If a lot people were walking around with a paper bag on their head, that would be a good disguise.
Same with the pantyhose, althoug you cannot be recognized, you definitively stand out in the crowd.
When a culture makes it normal for women to look like a ghost, then anyone else can do it for other purposes in total impunity. So when more and more people hide under the nikab for their deeds, eventually it will be banned, it s only a matter of time

Aren't cross-dressers and trans.e.xuals banned in Muslim countries? Maybe they just aren't recognized under all that cloth!

The sight of any pretty woman in the street now makes me slightly apprehensive too

What do you think about this Pakistani Transexual with its own TV show?
