Still makes good reading. As per BM's post - not sure about where the security risk is or why this puts peoples lives in danger - critiscm of David Cameron, spying on the UN.....Nelson Mandela wanting to meet Thatcher.....some not current and some have nothing to do with information that could be considered as putting lives at risk such as current strategy, troop deployment. Other info like Yemen - can't see any info about the actual operation - just that the US asked Yemen to say that the bombs they were dropping were theirs.

The US government wants WikiLeaks listed as a foreign terrorist organisation!
The leaks reveal that King Abdullah of Saudi wanted the US to bomb Irans nucular sites and inappropriate behaviour from an unnamed member of the British royal Family! Oh no, Wills hasn't been caught out on the eve of his nuptuals, has he? More likely to be that little munchkin Harry! Not Philip surely, who can be inappropriate at 90? Could be that serial shagger Andrew! Or has Charles been revealed as married to a horse? LOL

As we suspected, the revelations are more in the 'embarrassing' category for the US rather than the 'life threatening' (especially as Wiki and the papers are being careful not to publish names etc).

Meanwhile, another cable shows that a 2009 claim by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Iran was months away from achieving military nuclear capability was dismissed by the Americans as a ploy.

But in 2007,
Regarding what he considered Iran's true nuclear capabilities, a 2007 cable quoted outgoing Mossad chief Meir Dagan as stating that Tehran was attempting to convey a "false presentation that they have mastered the uranium enrichment process."

"The reality is," Dagan said, "that they are not there yet, and they are paying a heavy political price [sanctions] for something they have yet to achieve."

But, nothing new - everyone knows Israeli spin isn't remotely credible any more.. but good to get confirmation that this one was 'dismissed as ploy'

Cheers,

The wikileaks donot present any new info about Israel so far. Most has already been stated publicly by its leaders.

More revealing are the push of Arab states against Iran (they are obviously more worried about Iran than Israel) and Irans use of the Red Cross for its military.

They would dumb not to.

Historically, whenever a Muslim/Arab nation builds up a military force of some kind they claim will be used to attack Israel, they inevitably use their military might against one of their neighbors. Iraq's one million man army of the 80's didn't exactly 'liberate' Jerusalem.

Obviously, Iran is considered more of a security threat than the IPC, which is now confirmed by the leaks. So much for the notion that so much trouble in the ME, or the world for that matter, is caused by the IPC.

Just like "everyone" was convinced that Iraq had WMD

It's patently obvious that cables from US embassies will indeed focus more on the latest fashionable boogey man, and the conversations naturally gravitate towards this topic.

So, no disagreement that a lot of the info is about Iran - but I think it is a stretch to equate volume of diplomatic cables with importance. The Israeli occupation of Palestine is no less of an issue because of the latest obsession with Iran.

The 'oh, look over there' arguments are wearing a bit thin now a days FD - but I guess that is all you have left in the barrel now that it is patently clear to one and all that Israel is the one not willing to make peace - even a $30bln bribe isn't enough for them to temporarily stop some colonies being built!

^ Why don't you ask your idol, Chomsky, whether he thought Iraq had WMDs?

^LOL - are you saying just because you believe Chomsky believed the misleading and now proved to be false propaganda on Iraq, we should all believe the stories about Iran this time. C'mon, even you can do better. ;)

Well, one revelation that may not please everyone is that Israel and the UAE has secret ties and 'good relationships' at a personal level with Israel.

This comes as no surprise - but good to get confirmation that behind the public rhetoric some Israeli politicians are talking with their Arab neighbours - and its quite clear that the Arabs are still talking and hoping Israel will take up the Arab peace plan to resolve the continuing occupation of Palestine.

In a cable dating to March of 2009, Marc Sievers, the political advisor of the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv, provides an overview of Israel's relations with the Gulf states, following a meeting with the head of the Middle East division of the Foreign Ministry, Yaakov Hadas.

The overview details a "good and personal relationship" to have been developed between then Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and U.A.E. Foreign Minister Abdullah Ibn Zayed, adding, however, that the two officials would not "do in public what they say behind closed doors."

While Israel and the U.A.E. do not have official diplomatic relations, the diplomatic cable exposed by WikiLeaks uncovers the secret and persistent dialogue between the two countries during the administration of former Prime Minster Ehud Olmert.
