Huge selection of foods-supermarket wise you have brands from every country and you'll be spoilt for choice. Chocolate is particularly good!!
Restaurants are great and vary from the more basic (but great food) to five star. Name the country and you can get the food-Lebanese, Indian, Thai, Chinese, Arabic (of course) etc plus your fast food chains and coffee shops are rife- Mc Donald's, KFC, Burger King, Hardees, Subway, Pizza Hut, Cinnabon, Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Gloria Jeans, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf etc
Watersports- a huge contigent of mainly young guys go to Jebel Ali Beach and kite surf. Diving is also popular and several places offer courses. People also snorkel, swim, use wave-runners ski-dos etc.

with all that food choice i do believe a regular visit to the gym will be required if i am going to keep myself in this good shape.

Thanks for that comprehensive run down on the different foods,

the only thing now is to learn how "TO COOK."

thanks for that

it is really wierd how naive people can be, i thought i would have to starve cause i wouldn't really like anything. Its not as if Northern Ireland has a big selection.. but i guess home is home and you thinks thats best.
I can't wait to get to Dubai (5 weeks and counting)

However with all this big selection of food... I am going to have to learn how to COOK. :o

If you are on your own, my assumption is you'd eat out a lot and in Dubai you can do this on the cheap...or not!! A shawarma will set you back about AED3. Supermarkets like Union Coop sell shawarma and pre-made dips, salads etc and you can choose meats ie lamb chops, marinated kebabs and they bbq them for you. Spinney's supermarkets have nice cookies and cakes and you can get fried rice, veg and dishes from them as does Carrefour. Nearly every place delivers-KFC, Pizza Hut, Hardees, Burger King etc and the restaurants like Eat and Drink which has Chinese and Arabic food and there are loads of other restaurants like Kitchen (Indian), Zaatar (spelling??Lebanese) they deliver. All major malls have food courts too.
Cooking wise you can buy easy to cook stuff like sausages, burgers, chicken kievs, schnitzels, chops, steaks and great fish-some stuff is marinated and quality etc varies from store to store.
Breads are great-heaps of Arabic bread but the best loaf bread and best bakery in a Sspermarket comes from Park 'n Shop in my opinion. They had great mince pies at Christmas. Speaking of which your turkey for Chrissy can even be cooked with all the trimmings and delivered to you ready for Christmas lunch. Life can be one big smorgasboard in Dubai!!
