What's with this ''families only'' business? I know I am in Dubai and I must respect it's culture but as a generic human being it is getting irritating. Why is it necessary here to separate and allocate special places for families in restaurants, buses, parks, etc?

Because family life is a big part of the local culture.

^ What bugs me is why they need to separate them and restrict access to non-family people from places designated for them. What is the purpose of that?

I take it you've never been to Jumeirah Beach and seen the stream of single men that walk the beach in obvious non-beach clothing. This alone proves the need for Families Only beaches.

The purpose is to make families feel more comfortable. I am supportive of it myself, although I don't have a family here, I do believe families need the spaces to enjoy as well, without having to worry about the safety, security or comfort.

In west family means husband, wife and children Only

In east family means father, mother, brother, sister, uncle , aunty, grand parents, cousins, spouse children....
