Where to post this Q? Medical Q. Aug 14, 2010
Hey all,

So Mrs. DD smacked her head pretty good 36 hours ago. Defo no concussion (no nausea, vomiting, dilated pupils, etc). No bruising, nothing, just a pounding headache. No light sensitivity, no real symptoms. She has been able to "tough it out" and only took a few over the counter meds to no relief.

Long story short, she was in a stable and horse cranked her in the head with it's head. We will look at seeing the doc tomorrow, but it is 3am now and she is in pain.

Any ideas?

DD

After 36 hours - take her to the hospital mate, chances are there is no serious damage but don't mess with head injuries.

The American hospital has staff on all night and can get a scan done immediately in the trauma unit.

Thanks, Vikes. She is in the medical filed herself, so hard to make her go. We have to check on insurance in the am before we go anywhere (last little surprise cost us 33,000 AED). If she gets bad I will call her boss. I will keep vigil for now and wake her every hour and make sure all is as well as can be.

Kinda weird posting about this, but I am finding squat online. I suggested a scan of sorts, but Mrs. Know-it-all says otherwise.

She is totally coherent and shows no symptoms other than this headache. Se is not a whinger, either. She refuses to do anything right now. Chicks.

A sore head 36 hours after being thumped hard doesn't sound unusual to me. But if there's an abnormality, the potential consequences are severe enough that I wouldn't consider anything other than going to hospital/doctor to have it checked. Especially if you're concerned enough to ask.

I'm not a doctor. I assume you and Mrs DD are not doctors, and probably not anyone else posting here. How can you possibly get a proper medical diagnosis without having the patient examined? Especially on an internet forum?

At least phone the hospital and ask them.

Good luck, hope she's feeling better soon and there's nothing to be concerned about.

Hey All,

I only posted here as it was 3am and no, we are certainly not doctors. Mrs DD is a bit of a stubborn creature and would not get it checked yesterday. We did go bright and early this morning with not a great deal of joy. Xrays showed nothing, exam showed nothing. Just with some Panadol as expected. Guess we'll see how it goes. They said if there is still an issue in 4 days they would do a CT scan. She seems better today. Thanks all!

Glad to hear your lady is OK. Still, keep a close eye on her for the next few days!

Cheers!

Maybe it could be strained neck muscles that refer pain to the head? I just checked and it seems the oteopath I used to use has gone back to the UK. In any case, I highly recommend osteopath care (gentler than chiro!) to work on any tight muscles and help fix any alignment issues.

= Have her checked over immediately!

From personal experience, suggest a cocktail of 1200mg of Brufen and 1000Mg of paracetamol. This is prescribed in hospitals when morphine based pain killers are no longer required and is a very effective pain killer. Take on a full stomach and only use it for 24 hours.

Trust me, it works!

Thanks again all. Seems she is right in the head again (?) The blow coupled with I suspect is also dehydration was obviously the culprit. We did the math and she probably only had 500ml of water. In this heat doing strenuous activity is crazy. She has been reprimanded and I got her a bigger water bottle. Thanks for the suggestion, Knight. Funny enough, that is almost what she had to the letter!

It's her boss' kid's horse and Mrs. DD offered to (do horse things) while she is on holidays. The walking glue factory has already maimed a child. Makes me nervous, her riding it, but it seems putting my foot down did not help? You've met Mrs. DD, you know what I am up against!

It totally escapes me why the fairer gender have such an affinity with a creature that is stubborn, feckless, unreliable, won't go when you want it to and won't stop when you beg it...

I am talking horses here, not men!

In the words of me dear ol' dad: "Never ride anything with a brain!"
