Israel's newspaper Haaretz says it clearly:
(The latest news is apparently the Israeli navy has intercepted the flotilla in international waters)

Gaza flotilla drives Israel into a sea of stupidity

05.30.2010 | Haaretz

Of course the peace flotilla will not bring peace, and it won’t even manage to reach the Gaza shore. The action plan has included dragging the ships to Ashdod port, but it has again dragged us to the shores of stupidity and wrongdoing
By Gideon Levy

The Israeli propaganda machine has reached new highs its hopeless frenzy. It has distributed menus from Gaza restaurants, along with false information. It embarrassed itself by entering a futile public relations battle, which it might have been better off never starting. They want to maintain the ineffective, illegal and unethical siege on Gaza and not let the “peace flotilla” dock off the Gaza coast? There is nothing to explain, certainly not to a world that will never buy the web of explanations, lies and tactics.

Only in Israel do people still accept these tainted goods. Reminiscent of a pre-battle ritual from ancient times, the chorus cheered without asking questions. White uniformed soldiers got ready in our name. Spokesmen delivered their deceptive explanations in our name. The grotesque scene is at our expense. And virtually none of us have disturbed the performance.

The chorus has been singing songs of falsehood and lies. We are all in the chorus saying there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. We are all part of the chorus claiming the occupation of Gaza has ended, and that the flotilla is a violent attack on Israeli sovereignty - the cement is for building bunkers and the convoy is being funded by the Turkish Muslim Brotherhood. The Israeli siege of Gaza will topple Hamas and free Gilad Shalit. Foreign Ministry spokesman Yossi Levy, one of the most ridiculous of the propagandists, outdid himself when he unblinkingly proclaimed that the aid convoy headed toward Gaza was a violation of international law. Right. Exactly.

It’s not the siege that is illegal, but rather the flotilla. It wasn’t enough to distribute menus from Gaza restaurants through the Prime Minister’s Office, (including the highly recommended beef Stroganoff and cream of spinach soup ) and flaunt the quantities of fuel that the Israeli army spokesman says Israel is shipping in. The propaganda operation has tried to sell us and the world the idea that the occupation of Gaza is over, but in any case, Israel has legal authority to bar humanitarian aid. All one pack of lies.

Only one voice spoiled the illusory celebration a little: an Amnesty International report on the situation in Gaza. Four out of five Gaza residents need humanitarian assistance. Hundreds are waiting to the point of embarrassment to be allowed out for medical treatment, and 28 already have died. This is despite all the Israeli army spokesman’s briefings on the absence of a siege and the presence of assistance, but who cares?

And the preparations for the operation are also reminiscent of a particularly amusing farce: the feverish debate among the septet of ministers; the deployment of the Masada unit, the prison service’s commando unit that specializes in penetrating prison cells; naval commando fighters with backup from the special police anti-terror unit and the army’s Oketz canine unit; a special detention facility set up at the Ashdod port; and the electronic shield that was supposed to block broadcast of the ship’s capture and the detention of those on board.

And all of this in the face of what? A few hundred international activists, mostly people of conscience whose reputation Israeli propaganda has sought to besmirch. They are really mostly people who care, which is their right and obligation, even if the siege doesn’t concern us at all. Yes, this flotilla is indeed a political provocation, and what is protest action if not political provocation?

And facing them on the seas has been the Israeli ship of fools, floating but not knowing where or why. Why detain people? That’s how it is. Why a siege? That’s how it is. It’s like the Noam Chomsky affair all over again, but big time this time. Of course the peace flotilla will not bring peace, and it won’t even manage to reach the Gaza shore. The action plan has included dragging the ships to Ashdod port, but it has again dragged us to the shores of stupidity and wrongdoing. Again we will be portrayed not only as the ones that have blocked assistance, but also as fools who do everything to even further undermine our own standing. If that was one of the goals of the peace flotilla’s organizers, they won big yesterday.

Five years ago, the noted Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa, who is a Jerusalem Prize laureate, after concluding his visit to Israel, said the Israeli occupation was approaching its grotesque phase. Over the weekend Vargas Llosa, who considers himself a friend of Israel, was present to see that that phase has since reached new heights of absurdity.

Haaretz reporting that two activists have been killed and others wounded by the Israelis in international waters - according to reports from Turkish TV:

http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/report-israel-navy-opens-fire-on-gaza-aid-flotilla-2-activists-killed-1.293089

If confrimed, it begs the question - is it legal to kill unarmed people in international waters?

Well, Israel attacks Gaza aid fleet and up to 16 people have been killed. Israel again shows its belligerent and apartheid approach when dealing with normal civilians. Israel has again killed innocent civilians whom done nothing wrong but to be involved in humanitarian aids.
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middl ... 95359.html

Khalid ibn al-Walid would’ve been very proud of what the Turkish, Iranian people and their governments have been doing to stand up against this bullying Apartheid Israeli government, who has no respect for the international community. And on the other hands, Khalid ibn al-Walid would’ve been ashamed and embarrassed of the so called Arab people and their coward governments and the fact that they haven’t done nothing to stand up against this Apartheid Israeli government and support fellow Palestinians.

I’m extremely ashamed of being an Arab descent - whish I could change that. It’s not a good look at all for those Arabs citizens and those coward Egyptians and their pro-Israeli government Hosni Mubarak, when the honourable Turkish people and their government challenge those Apartheid Zionists government and sail toward Gaza to deliver humanitarian aids to imprisoned and impoverished people.

My respect and admiration goes to the Turkish, Irish and other citizens from across the globe who decided to be part of a rewarding journey to deliver humanitarian aids to the impoverish women and children of Gaza – You have my ultimate love and respect.

Arab citizens, what are you going to do – Shame shame shame shame on you of not doing nothing. You cant’ even F..............cking protest on the street to show to the world that you are upset about what has been happening to those innocents women and children– you are nothing but bunch of chickens Go wear skirts and hide your faces.

Salute to the Turkish people and their government

The aid fleed could bring their stuff via Ashdod into Gaza. This is what Israel proposed. Israeli navy warned the peace activists numerous times, instead the peace activists opened fire.

Up to 19 people have been killed by Israel Zionist soldier s so far.
Why do those peace-loving activists have to listen to what this Apartheid Israeli government says? Gaza is part of Palestine and Palestine is a country, thus, Israel has no F............cking say over another country.
How would you like if American has a say over what’s enter into Russia.

Humbleman - it is just a matter of time before fanbois #2 jumps in and starts quoting the Quran!

Audrey Bomse, a spokesperson for the Free Gaza Movement, which is behind the convoy, told the BBC Israel's actions were disproportionate.

"We were not going to pose any violent resistance. The only resistance that there might be would be passive resistance such as physically blocking the steering room, or blocking the engine room downstairs, so that they couldn't get taken over. But that was just symbolic resistance."

She said there was "absolutely no evidence of live fire".

It will be interesting to see how Israel spin's this story (which the PA is already calling a massacre:

^Yep, can't fault FD on that fact. In fact, the Flotilla was meant to highlight the fact that Gaza is an open prison under a medieval siege. The brutality of the power who is behind this siege has been graphically demonstrated.

However, if it wasn't occupied by Israel, it would be indeed be a sovereign Palestine - which is what the UN resolutions and peace plans all state is what needs to happen - but that's another obvious fact.

Flying Dutchman, I sense your bias, but you know what - you are not a real Jew – because a real Jewish would never approve such Apartheid Zionist regime. My best friend is a real Jewish, and I know what he thinks of what’s happening to the Palestinian people

You are nothing but a miserable, sad and a bigot human being who knows the truth of what is happening to those poor Palestinians people, but yet chose to look the other way because of sheer ignorance and bias. As a human being, you must promote peace and fairness because that’s what differentiae you from animal

There are 19 dead so far after Israeli anti-terror teams raided the aid vonvoy. 25 wounded, among them 6 Israeli. Israel has started an PR campaign to explain the world that is reacted against assault on its people during the entering as can be seen on this video. So far, this is what really happened.

Video of the raid: http://www.rtl.nl/components/actueel/rt ... oi_aan.xml

The pro-Palestinian 'peace' protestors started hitting the anti-terror squad with sticks and potentially knives as they landed on the vessle. No weapons were fired from the peace protestor side as far as the information goes.

Around 800 people on different vessles from multiple nations around the world are present on this International floating flotilla convoy as is being reported.

The world reacts with fury. Reporters claim that Israel overplayed its hand by sending in commando's or anti-terror squads other than the riot police, which was more appropriate. Sending in the top killers of Israel made the situation more dire.

Israeli military spokesman reports that it used models and riot training to manage the take-over of the six vessles. Unfortunately, the models didn't reflect reality and force was needed. The vessles are now in under Israeli command.

Come on mate, you already knew the drill.
It’ll turns out as usual, the coward Arab leaders who literally could bring the world to a halt by stopping the flow of oil will do nothing but watch. The Media’s focus will diminish, and the Apartheid Zionist regime will continue its occupation and oppression against those powerless hungry Palestinians.

Be humble Humbleman.

You are right about the inequality of force that is favorable to Israel. But they have rights to inspect those vessle's also. This is raid run out of control.

If Arab leaders use their leverage and stop oil flows, we are in for a whole other type of shit. World War III would be close. When the oil stops flowing, the life of an Arab stops also. Oil is vital for world economies. Israel/Palestine is tangent issue and should be seen that way.

You can't just stop the flow of oil mate. Think of the damage it could do. We went to war for less.

I hear you what you are saying.
However, the only way that the international community managed to stop Hitler’s madness was by waging a war against him. Now history has to repeating itself, Israel which I don’t believe it represent the real Jewish people will never stop its cruelty and occupation against Palestinian people unless the international community engage in another unfortunate war.

Israel thinks it can eventually control s Palestinian lands - that’s why it has no intention for peace. War is a horrible thing, but what can you do when you have no other option. Israel despicably killed peaceful activists.
You tell me what do you think the solution is? Palestinians have reluctantly said okay to two state solution, and said yes to the Arab Peace Initiative, but Israel on the other hands, said no to every peace initiative.

Just imagine if you were a Palestinian who has been denied the right of return, or the right of living a normal life without check points and daily harassment at the hands of Israeli soldiers.

South Africa would’ve never been what it is today if the international community hadn’t stand together against the Apartheid regime.

There are some humans, but luckily there are so many good humans too, and those decent humans ought to stand up for justice.

Contrary to the spin fed to us by the Western and Islamic/Arab media, respectively, it was the Pal-Arabs who rejected the UN partition plan of '47 whereas the Jews accepted the UN plan.

Recently Israel has arrogantly slammed its master the US when it demanded that Israel must freeze any illegal settlement in order to establish a peace talk with the Palestinian government.

people world wide know that Israel has brushed all peaceful initiatives, thinking that it would somehow convince the Palestinians to be part of Israel.

Nothing but piracy in international waters as I see it.

Boy Israel really shot its self in the foot in this one. They could have taken complete advantage of the situation and let them him and that would have been a good PR gimmick and won its some brownie points. Seriously makes you think that place is being run by complere farktards !

The world is already lashing out against this and Israel is making it self look worse by issue even more idiotic statments defending this stupidity.

You should see the first two video's I planted a little late.

Israel behaved properly. I see soldiers running away from the attacking protestors at first, but when the rods come closer and the anger lashes out, the soldiers get scared and start using their weapons for defense.

They followed the rules by the booklet. Just like the Apache incident. Threat confirmed, check check check and slamdunk back.

Silly protestors. Who in his right mind would target the military. Those Pro-Palestinians are so full of hatred. Dumb dumb dumb. :D

How ? Armed soilders boarded the vessels in international waters with intent to take over. The poor somalis do that and they are termed pirates ?

Excellent Israel managed to legalise piracy once again in one broad sweep. I bet the Somali Pirates, oops I meant bussines men must be celebrating

I'm no fan of Palestine either or the mess they are in I feel is somewhat bought up upon themselves but thats beside the point. What sense does it make to send in armed soilders to a flotilla of civillian ships ? Ofcourse Israel has to always show how big its d!ck is.

How bout blocking the vessells with a couple of frigates and turning them back. There are a million other ways this could have been handled peacefully. But Israel also never lets an oppurtunity go by to show what a retard it is. I think Israel has even outdone itself this time

Sorry mate no matter which angle you look at but you just can justify this one.

Your missing the point compadre. Attack and murder in international waters equals to piracy. Illegal, no two ways about it.

What would you say a bunch of somali pirates boared a vessel and the crew attacked these pirates ? Would you say the pirates were in their full rights to open fire at the crew or passengers ?

Lets take it step by step
1- Was the boarding of the vessel even legal ?

Under international law it is permissible to attack neutral vessels on the high seas when the vessels “are believed on reasonable grounds to be carrying contraband or breaching a blockade, and after prior warning they intentionally and clearly refuse to stop, or intentionally and clearly resist visit, search or capture.”

Israel notified the flotilla that their goods could still be transferred to gaza after a routine security inspection.

Israel could consider this as an act of war from Turkey.

International Law says a country can extented its territorial waters in an emergencyy situation up to a certain limit called The Contiguous zone. 44kms from shore line.

Reports vary about how far the flotilla was from 65 to 75 miles off the coast but still puts it in international waters.

What happened to the good guy/bad guy storyline?

We do have rules and justice you know. It doesn't always seem that way in Palestine, but the Isreali military needs them to remain credible. I'm glad they still try. ;)

Re: Sea of Stupidity May 31, 2010
The question is not whether flotilla was in international waters, rather whether is was in neutral waters:

I´ll quote from San Remo Manual on International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts at Sea, 12 June 1994:

14. Neutral waters consist of the internal waters, territorial sea, and, where applicable, the archipelagic waters, of neutral States. Neutral airspace consists of the airspace over neutral waters and the land territory of neutral States.

No, flotilla was not in neutral waters.

Checking further:

118. In exercising their legal rights in an international armed conflict at sea, belligerent warships and military aircraft have a right to visit and search merchant vessels outside neutral waters where there are reasonable grounds for suspecting that they are subject to capture.

119. As an alternative to visit and search, a neutral merchant vessel may, with its consent, be diverted from its declared destination.

67. Merchant vessels flying the flag of neutral States may not be attacked unless they:

(a) are believed on reasonable grounds to be carrying contraband or breaching a blockade, and after prior warning they intentionally and clearly refuse to stop, or intentionally and clearly resist visit, search or capture

That's true - the 1947 plan gave Israel 55% of the land and Palestine 45% of the land. The Arab side did indeed reject this.

Now they are willing to settle for the 22% that was left before the 1967 war and let Israel keep the 78% they have. Unfortunately, Israel is not happy to 'only' keep this 78% and want more.

I'm not surprised that Israel and her fans are blaming the victims and even invoking international law for their acts of piracy and murder, but hey - at least this time far fewer people than before are drinking the kool-aid.

In a way, I feel sorry for the commandos dropped onto the Turkish ship - it does indeed seem like they did the best they could in the circumstances. But who were the inept fools who ordered them to jump onto a ship and put themselves in a situation where they'd have to kill peace activists!

Turkey is rightly calling this an act of state terrorism.

Israel has really lost it big time. I read on Haaretz an article which quoted Ismail Haniyyah of Hamas saying that if Israel attacked the flotilla, it would be a victory for Hamas! (I couldn't find it just now amongst all the stories about the 'massacre').
