Banks - Has anyone taken them to Task? May 03, 2010
Hey all

Well to cut a long story short, our company delivered salary transfer letters to a bank (Bank X) on 28 April 2010. All of them were executed and funds transferred on the same day with the exception of employees who hold accounts with another Bank (Bank Y)

They were informed that our account was debited but hadnt reached the beneficiaries as yet and finally initiated an investigation and rectified the situation on 03 May 2010.

Due to this delay, Many employees have returned cheques or late charges and since its clearly the fault of Bank X, can they be made liable to pay compensation for this delay? I'm really peeved about this because banks here behave like vultures and hound you to frustration even if their loan or credit card repayments are delayed by a day. I think its pay back time now.

Anyone have first hand experience with situations similar to this? thanks

You have as much chance of getting anything from the bank as a camel does of winning the Grand National!

The banking system here is arcane, arthritic and incompetent. And its always someone else's fault. Normally yours. They will then charge you for the privilege of screwing up all your transfers and claim it was the central bank regulations due to 'anti money laundering' policies.

Then a local will walk in with 20 Spinney's bags neatly stuffed with 1000 dirham notes and no-one will bat an eyelid!

UAE Banks...rhymes with?

Well in all honesty you need to get your company to do the salary transfers earlier then. Don't forget that now all salaries have to go through the central banking system and it can be held up there for at least three days, before being transfered to the relevant banks of employees.
