Signing A Letter Of Intent

Signing a letter of intent Apr 24, 2010
I have been offered a job in a school in Dubai. I am not sure if I want to work with that school as the wages are not great. They have sent me a letter of intent that has to be signed. I am not due to begin with them until mid-August. If I sign this contract and find a better job in the meantime, will it be possible to break the contract? They will not get a chance to process my visa until August 2010. Does this mean it will easier to break the contact? I have heard that you can not work for a year if you break some contracts. My fiancee is out there so that would be awful if I could not live with him for a year!!

I agree. A letter of intent is not the same as a contract but check the wording carefully.

If they say to you to enter the UAE on a visit visa rather than provide you with an employment entry visa, then you should be fine. If they get an employment entry visa issued, that means they have started the process to issue residence visa and work permit, and there could be problems if you change your mind.
