I always say, its never the fault of the one asking, but of the one giving. The Brits didn’t want to do “dirty” plumbing work, agricultural work and so on for peanut money, so they opened their borders for the Polish, Slovak, Ukrainian, Check, etc who came and did the work for them.

Same in the UAE. Dubai was possible only by bringing in the thousands of uneducated, low cost, and treatable like les than human Indians and Pakistanis.

Or think of the high number of Tunisians, Moroccans and Algerians in Paris, looked down upon as if they were a plague.

Its dirty work so I won’t do it. I’ll bring instead somebody from a less fortunate country to slave in my place while I’ll look down on them. And when they want to upgrade their life or demand the pay they deserve for their hard work, I try to push them down, cos that’s where they belong, right? And god forbid, with the people coming to work and make a living, some others who commit criminal acts also arrive. Since the day I started hating them, it’s the best excuse, served to me on a platter to generalize and judge them all.

The main issue is that there is a huge economic, cultural and political gap between the countries in the European Union. There should be immigration laws that apply to all. An uneducated brute with a criminal record from Slovakia is no better than one from Bangladesh. Only one of them is let in the UK. I am not advocating they both be allowed entry, quite the contrary, there should be strict criteria in allowing admission. The whole idea of immigration is to bring in quality people to compensate for shortages in your community not to bring in cheap labor. This is the same mistake happening in Dubai. It is not so prevalent in Dubai at this time because people are only let in on a temporary basis, once they acquire disease or commit a crime they are thrown out. Also, they don't cost the city anything because they are offered nothing. That is not remotely fair but it offers some protection. The UK needs to be extra careful because their benefits system is based on taxpayer's incomes. You can maybe justify taking a taxpayer's money to keep afloat a family that contributes to community and serves a purpose. However, to use it to support people who either have no inclination to work or lack the skills to land a self sufficient job is recipe for disaster nor is it ethical. If the UK is so keen to help these people it is cheaper to directly invest in their countries. At least, it will stimulate development that may encourage these people to stay in their mother countries.

The difference is: (1) there is no welfare system in the UAE. (2) The people who came to Dubai were recruited to work in Dubai and were paid (which is definitely another issue!)

There is a difference when you step off a boat, not a citizen, and there is a place reserved for you on the dole line. What the government provides for them is at the expense of the working class. That's why there are taxes.

These people weren't "recruited" to do the work no one else is willing to do. They travelled to the UK on their own hearing that they would have a "better" life - at the expense of the taxpayer of course. The thing is, if they were to work, they would probably earn less than if they were on the dole. Why get up and work for 800 pounds a month when the government is giving you a house, food, medical and income which exceeds a salary?? Once they go to work all benefits are stopped or possibly continue to receive partial benefits. But at the end of the day, why go work when you don't have to??

It's a damn shame when people who are born and raised in a country end up homeless or lose their homes, assets and savings to cover the cost of medical treatment and show that they are destitute before the government intervenes and provides medical treatment, when people who arrived "yesterday" are given a roof over their head and free medical.

As for Paris - the French look down on everyone.

Bora, you made some points. But I also think you got mine. none of this would happen without the local authorities making it possible in the 1st place.

if all jobs would get a pay making a somewhat decent livig possible, locals would be fine doing them and there would be no need to bring in foreign cheap labor in the 1st place. but than again, if people would not migrate to other countries, all these countries would end up like one of the skandinavian ones not too long ago, when they found themselves forced to attract foreigners to stop the inbreeding

But it is way more complex than that. It's a proven fact that England's GDP growth over over the past decade has fluctuated between 0.5 to 1 % and migrants alone are responsible for more than half those figures.

Now this might hurt so brace up, a study by PWC concluded that "The public finances have not suffered either as a result of the influx of migrant workers. The majority of migrants are aged between 18-34 years, with high employment rates compared to their UK equivalents and therefore benefit payments are low."
