This is a clear case where the punishment does not fit the crime. I just hope that the Ajman authorities do not carry out the sentence because it is grossly unfair!

I can understand that some Sharia judge has probably sentenced the poor man to 80 lashes for drinking alcohol, which is in line with strict Islamic judicial laws. But hopefully that harsh sentence gets waived by the authorities!!!

Laws are made to be applied intelligently, not blindly!!!

Here is a good example of a case in Holland where the punishment was too severe and the courts reversed the punishment and compensated the victim. The case involves a private firm, Mcdonald's, but it illustrates the proper application of the principle that the punishment should fit the crime -- which is a known principle in ethics and law.

It simply means the LAW is the LAW it doesnt matter if its backward or forward, its the LAW and it doesnt matter how you use it, you can criticize it nor denny it but you can never judge it, you only need to face it.

As for locals marrying indian women - DUH!! But it's not as if they were the majority. General rule of thumb is that local Arab men marry Arab women.

All you do is trade your droopy drawers or Nehru jacket for another nationality's customary dress, but the fact remains - you are still an Indian!!! It's no different if I gave up my western clothes for an abaya or a sari - the fact remains I am western. Quite a few years ago the locals wanted to make it illegal for non-locals to wear dishdasha because Indians were adopting it as a form of their identity.

When outside of the UAE in western countries, you knob, of course they wear Western clothing!!! If you were to travel to western countries do you wear your droopy drawers?? I don't think so!

My point is - they may spend alot of money on the clothes but they have no sense of style or proper fit!!

of course they would try to deny it. But many many Arabs look like Pakistanis. In fact, as Rudeboy said, you wont be able to tell a Balushi apart from a Shamsi or an Attar when they are both cladding the national dress.
Also some of them resemble Indians, mostly in Northern Emirates, because they had Indian mothers. They are the ones who can speak Urdu quite well, even though they are young, and are often fans of Bollywood movies. Many Pakistanis, particularly Baluchis, move around in local dresses, without the black band. Most people, apart from other Gulf Arabs, think they are Khaleejis. It is only when you talk to them that you get signs of them being Baluchi.

Also, it IS illegal for Non Gulf Arabs to wear the Arab headdress,

I do know quite a few things, but my virtue lies in constantly craving for knowledge, either by reading or by asking/acquiring the appropriate sources.
