Are any credit checks carried out when you want to open a bank account, apply for credit, get a mobile phone contract etc?
Unfortunately UK credit rating not too hot but solvent again now!!!
Just wondered what the position was in Dubai and if I will have any difficulty when I move next month.

Its ok, the system of credit checks is not the same as Dubai and unconnected. You will be fine

Use the search function buddy, this was covered plenty of times. But in short you'll need a copy of your residence visa and a salary letter when applying for credit here. They don't go so far as to contact your home country to verify credit ratings etc.
