STD Testing

So none of the insurance companies cover STD care or testing. Fair enough since the fact that a person may have an STD might constitute breaking the local laws.

What if you aquired the STD overseas in a locale where it might not be illegal to have relations out of wedlock etc.

Are there doctors who specialize in STD testing here in Dubai? What if you come up with something like syphillis or chlamydia? Will you be reported to the government? What sort of problems will that entail?

Will doctors even test for STD's given the laws?

Thanks in advance for your help

Yes any of the medical clinics will do these kinds of tests, and no they will not report any findings. Only HIV/AIDS. Patient/doctor confidentiality still exists.

But no insurance companies will not cover anything that comes in as an STD, as it's basically your own fault, unless you get a friendly doctor who doesn't mind putting something else down on your form.

A guy I know used to go to another emirate for tests because he didnt trust the clinics not to report it.

But chocs seems to know an awful lot about it.... :angel12:

Otherwise you could just go to the chemist, buy yourself a course of Ciprobay and one of Zithromax, and treat yourself just in case :D

It's called being 'educated and informed' SH! We learn about this stuff in Primary school!!!! PLUS not all infections/viruses often classed as STD's are actually transmitted by intercourse, but can be contracted in other ways aswell. Some people are just carriers of things without even knowing it.

Any repsonsible adult, no matter what their relationship status or activity should screen themselves full spectrum every 6 months regardless.

And NO! You should never self diagnose and self-treat from the pharmacy! This is SOOOOOO dangerous! You could end up with more problems than you started with by using the wrong medications! BAD BAD BAD advice!

Clinics with European doctors are recommended like the GMC or Dr Akel's on Beach road.

;)

Take her advice billystyle, I'm just a bloke and we never look after our health properly. Mine didn't fall off yet though :P

Actually I read that with the increase in charges and lowering of income, people are starting to self-diagnose instead of going to their doctor. It's a problem in the making.

Well that is going to be a big problem in the future if that's the case, not good.

SH, you right on the money about getting blokes to the docs....geez it's not that bad. Seriously as a woman, we have far more undignified things going on. Although I don't envy the swab up the ...... - ouch!

I had the swab once, it's actually nothing really. Any guys reading this, don't put off a checkup just because you don't like the thought. Also my doc is a lady so it kind of takes your mind off it anyway :D
