See a few vacancies there. I think I'll start from the top (95,000) and work my way down.

I know a guy who isn't a local, and is not 'western-educated' but is earning 100K/mo. Take that!

Well just go down the list and take a look at the names. In top management you may find the "token" Arab. You will definitely see more of them of the lower pay scale.

Obviously my point it that it is possible to earn that much even if you're not 'western-educated'. It is a common notion that that qualification is very crucial here to even land a decent job in the first place.

Could you imagine how much bitching is going on in that office right now?

"OMG I can't believe John is earning more than me, he does nothing around here" etc etc.

Especially everyone bitching at the business section for earning the big bucks. ha!

Remember kids, if you're going to do journalism, make sure you specialise in Business and not Fashion ok?

That list has been around for a week or so. I read somewhere that The National admitted at least part of it is correct.

People, did you guys fail to notice a couple of vacant spots ! Good time to apply I think. A good buddy of mine has just started to work freelance with them. Never bothered to ask how much they pay him.

Right about now I wish I was a journalist :(

I think you better fit with your own company supplying desert bashing trips for tourists. Don't you think you should do something with your passion?

Get a few offroaders and a bit of advertising on a website and your off.
Or is competition fierce nowadays?

NO ! I want to get paid a 100k a month for not doing much. Or send in a few pages worth of articles and get paid 50k. Both suit me fine :D

As for your question, mafi tourist here this season, all my ex colleges are sitting and swatting flies !

So the economic downfall is noticeable in that sector too.
Can you give an estimate in the decline of tourists compared to last year?

Thnx.

Laymans terms : Massive

During this time we guys didn't have time to breathe. Now most are being asked to take long voluntary vacations. Mostly its local market now. Not the huge multimillion incentive trips we used to do before where a very expensive 5 star property would be booked for a couple of days and have huge concerts and massive fireworks in the deserts with international stars.
( good chance to get to know celebrities on a one to one basis ) Best thing would be there would be 0 media coverage and they wanted it all hush hush.

A few companies would however liked these events to flash their logo to the maximum. Would be awesome sight to have 100 plus Land cruisers all decked in corporate colours traveling in a convoy. Oops sorry got carried away.

If your asking for figures I really can't give you any. But as you know big tour operators rely on tourist, hook up with overseas tour operators and big corporate comapines. Vacationing is done when one has disposable income ( unless its Germans, they rather starve then not go on vacation ). Also big bussiness is trying to cut down extra expenses so this for sure has had an impact. Due to this even hotel and resort occupany is severly down.

Actually Emirates has suspended using the 380 Airbus for Dubai/NY/Dubai. Passengers are not being shifted to UA. If anything, UA will porbably shut down its operation as it did going back several years ago.

I don't think many would miss any of the US Airlines, they are really yhe pits compared with what we have here.
